Position Summary (Executive Director, Morton Chamber of Commerce):

The Executive Director leads the Morton Chamber of Commerce under the Board's guidance, handling executive leadership, financial oversight, and personnel management.

Functions
  1. Strategic Plan and Annual Program of Work – The Executive Director is responsible for identification of Chamber, membership and community needs and for the preparation of a strategic plan outline and insights to define a strategic plan with board engagement and approval.  This involves a constant evaluation of the goals, strategic placemat action plan, and budget with recommendations for change.
     
  2. Chamber Structure and Procedures – The Executive Director must be attentive to the internal structure of the Chamber to insure that the organization operates efficiently and effectively. The Director will recommend to the board changes in structure and procedures as may be needed.
     
  3. Motivation of Volunteers – Key to the effectiveness of the Chamber is the ability of the Executive Director along with oversight of team to motivate and inspire board members, ambassadors and volunteers to activate the mission, enhance engagement, enable the network to achieve goals and leverage their working genius abilities. 
     
  4. Income and Expenses – The Executive Director is responsible for preparing the Chamber budget and relating the budget to programs, events, and initiative goals in collaboration with the Chamber Executive Finance committee and support from bookkeeper.  The Executive Director is responsible for all expenditures within the framework of the budget as is approved, or amended, by the Board of Directors.  
     
  5. Membership – The Director, supported by the Board and Ambassadors, is responsible for maintaining the membership at a level which will ensure necessary income for the operations of the organization.  Membership benefits to be reviewed annually for modifications and adjustments to align with membership network needs.  A defined membership outreach and engagement plan of action to be implemented and reviewed annually. 
     
  6. Staff – The Executive Director is responsible for the hiring of all staff personnel, the assignment of their duties, the supervision of their work and the establishment of the terms of their employment within the financial and policy framework approved by the Board of Directors.  The Executive Director will develop and conduct continuing on-the-job training and will ensure participation in professional conferences, seminars and institutes as are needed to develop and maintain operations at a peak of efficiency and professionalism.
     
  7. Interpretation of Bylaws and Policy – The Executive Director will collaborate with the Executive Board and Board of Directors to establish, implement, and govern by approved organizational bylaws.  The Executive Direction will ensure that Chamber policies, as established by the Board, are properly documented, adhered to and communicated.  
     
  8. Communication & Spokesperson - The Executive Director will jointly work with the President of the Board in preparation of statements of Chamber position on organization situations and matters that have external impact.
     
  9. Headquarters – The Executive Director is responsible for the location, design and maintenance of headquarters which will provide for an efficient operation and will present, on behalf of the community, an attractive "front door" for the use of Chamber members and visitors.
     
  10. Long-Range Planning – Under a constantly evolving Board of Directors and bi-annual change in officers, the Executive Director is responsible for maintaining continuity and consistency in the organization mission and annual calendar of events and programs.  The Executive Director must anticipate emerging and long-range problems and recommend resources or strategy to meet support addressing such problems.
     
  11. Most Important Contacts
    1. Board of Directors – The Executive Director must earn and maintain the respect and confidence of the Board, individually and collectively.  The Executive Director is responsible for preparation of agenda, maintenance of Board minutes and records, carrying out the plans and programs of the Board in accordance with their established policies, serve as representative of the Board for all contacts with the Chamber staff, initiate programs for consideration by the Board, and advise the Board on all matters under consideration.  The Executive Director will report monthly on activities of the Executive Director to be distributed to Board members each month.
       
    2. Chamber Members – The Executive Director must motivate members to support—personally and financially—an aggressive Chamber program.  The Executive Director must analyze and interpret the needs of members and recommend revisions in the program of work accordingly so as to render increasing improved service and assistance that will make membership more valuable.  The Executive Director will entertain suggestions, proposals and requests from the members and translate them into action if and when it would be consistent with the fundamental objectives and policies of the Chamber.
       
    3. Staff – The Executive Director must lead the staff and assume responsibility for their efficient performance of duty.
       
    4. Community – Through personal contacts with key community leaders, the Executive Director helps shape the community.  The Executive Director is called on frequently to relate the Chamber to other groups in its contribution to improvement of the commercial, industrial and civic life of the community, including government officials and state and national legislators.
       
    5. Regional Organizations, Associations and Coalitions – The Executive Director is responsible for a strong voice representing the Morton community.
       
    6. Prospective Relocating Businesses and Residents – Stimulate and facilitate all activity concerning the economic development of the community.  This includes maintaining a current listing of available sites and buildings in Morton, continuous appraisal of state programs, representation of membership in relationship to building permits and zoning requirements.
       
  12.  Other Specific Responsibilities –
    1. Pumpkin Festival – The Executive Director will coordinate all activities related to the successful operation of this annual community festival
       
    2. Non-Chamber Meetings – The Executive Director will act as liaison and attend the Village Board (first and third Mondays of every month, 7:00 PM).  The Director will attend other community meetings as necessary.

As CEO, you will oversee MEDC's administration and strategic direction, reporting to the Board. Responsibilities include budget management, strategic planning, and fostering relationships with the Morton community and external stakeholders.
