Details:
Health Brigade (HB), formerly Fan Free Clinic, is seeking a part-time interpreter to work with Spanish speaking clients and staff in the Mental Health and Wellness Department. The ideal candidate has experience and/or interest in interpreting in a medical setting.

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
To provide interpretation for mental health and psychiatric services to Spanish speaking individuals with limited English Proficiency served at Health Brigade.


Qualifications:

· Spanish proficiency required, understanding grammar, spelling, and pronunciation
· Accurately interprets the conversation between client and Health Brigade staff
· Acts as broker to navigate cultural differences between client and Health Brigade staff
· Comfortable discussing sensitive or personal issues
· Able to understand and present information of a medical/psychiatric or technical nature
· Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment as part of various teams.
· Cultural sensitivity, competence, and humility in serving a diverse population.
· Passion for the mission and values of Health Brigade.
· Excellent interpersonal skills


Comments:
Candidate will be expected to provide consecutive interpretation between client and Mental Health staff (primarily psychiatric staff), sight translation (reading a written document and verbally interpreting it into another language immediately) as needed, and facilitate communication by conveying both the literal words and cultural nuances to ensure understanding between the client and Mental Health staff. Candidate will be expected to assist in contacting Spanish speaking clients via phone or email to schedule or follow up on appointments as needed.

Interpretation will be provided virtually, so candidate must have a stable internet connection and private workspace when working remotely. Most work hours will be in the mornings and afternoons (9 - 11am and 3 - 5 pm), but flexibility between 9-5pm EST is required. Because this is a virtual position, candidate does not have to reside in Virginia.

Candidate will be expected to familiarize themself with specialized vocabulary for psychiatry and mental health to ensure accuracy while remaining impartial and professional throughout the session. Computer skills are required and proficiency in Microsoft Office products preferred.

Compensation
Compensation is $20/hour for up to 16 hours per week.
