Deepwater and Unconventional E&P in Colombia Forum 2014

The Colombia Texas Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the U.S Commercial Service, organized the Deepwater and Unconventional E & P in Colombia Forum during the OTC in Houston, at the Reliant Stadium. International oil and gas experts including lawyers and engineers together with governmental officials from the U.S and Colombia, participated in the forum leading the discussion of Colombia’s potential of becoming a prominent location for oil and gas operators and services companies, to work on offshore regions and unconventional oil and gas fields.

Colombia Energy Summit

The Colombia Energy Summit is an international event from Latin Markets organization that took place in Bogota at the JW Marriot between May 28 and 29, 2014. It gathered over three hundred participants between national and foreign companies already investing in Colombia in different areas of the energy sector such as oil & gas production, hydroelectric power and thermal power.
 
The agenda included presentations by the National Hydrocarbon Agency in Colombia, the Regulatory Committee of Energy & Gas, the Colombian Association of Petroleum National society of geology; Pacific Rubiales, Vetra Energia, Canacol Energy, Termocaly, among others.

2nd Annual International Suppliers Meeting-Ecopetrol Call for Suppliers

On Friday May 9th, The Colombia Texas Chamber of Commerce and Ecopetrol organized the “2nd Annual International Suppliers Meeting” at Ecopetrol Americas building in Houston. The event welcomed 266 representatives from various Texan companies interested in becoming suppliers to Ecopetrol, as well as Colombian companies interested in building strategic relations with Texan-based entrepreneurs.
 

During the afternoon was the one-on-one meeting sessions. A total of 276 business meetings were held between Ecopetrol, Colombian entrepreneurs and Texan companies.

The First Strategic Alliances and Joint Ventures Program between US and Colombian Companies

The 1st Strategic Alliances and Join Venture Program Between Colombian and US companies, organized by the Colombia Texas Chamber of Commerce, Ecopetrol, and Camara Fedemetal ANDI.
 
    
 The week of May 6th to May 9th, a trade mission arrived to Houston with 8 Colombian Companies and the ANDI (National Business Association of Colombia, Chamber of steel and Metal Working Sector). The Colombia Texas Chamber of Commerce welcomed the companies at the CTCC facilities and organized all the agenda during their visit. The trade mission visited 3 companies, the OTC event and participated at the International Suppliers Meeting on May 9th.  A total of 108 meeting were attended.

My name is Susana Marin Arango and I am from Medellin, Colombia. I am currently a student at Houston Community College, studying Banking and Financial Lending through a full ride scholarship offered by the U.S. Department of State. I have been in United States for a period of one year during which I have been a full time student. I have participated in community service, acquired an internship in my field of study, and served as an ambassador of my culture.
The Community College Consortium Initiative Program demonstrates the U.S. Department of State’s commitment to developing countries by providing academic and cultural opportunities to underserved, underrepresented students chosen by the U.S. Embassies and/or Commissions overseas. After completing the program, I will return home with new skills and expertise to help me contribute to the economic growth and development of my home country.

OTC Houston 2014. Deepwater and Unconventional E&P in Colombia. Forum

Figure -1. . Conference and Exposition of the OTC in Houston, Texas May 5th – 8th, 2014. This conference takes place the first week of May of each year (Source: OTC, Colombia Texas Chambers of Commerce, Roberto Garcia-Solorzano).
 
In this technology conference, operators and contractors of drilling and production services and equipment get together and exhibit the most advanced technology there is available.
 
Countries’ delegation and companies present lectures, roundtables and host forums on local issues of operations to show the progresses on a particular project or topic.
 
With focus on Latin America, there were sections where the goal was to explain various aspects of the Mexican Energy Reform, including its reach, however, more information is needed in that regard in order to evaluate this new economic scheme to its fullest.
