The Gift of Collaborative Achievement Driven Relationships
I am so proud of my niece; she passed the bar exam on her first try! Wow, what an accomplishment! But let's take a closer look at her story.
The great motivational speaker, Mr. Les Brown, talks about the importance of making it in life with Collaborative Achievement Driven Relationships. You need to surround yourself with people who are going to add to your life; in turn you bring something to their table as well. Jokingly, Les always asks the question, "are you the smartest person in the group you hang out with? If you are, you need to get into another group!" The key is to develop collaborative achievement driven relationships which will help to you to go to the next level.
When my niece successfully graduated from law school this year, she continued with her pursuit of passing the California Bar Exam. One of the popular pieces of advice is "Don't feel bad if you don't pass the Bar Exam the first time, it is a very difficult task especially the Californina and New York Exams." Often times people will give you advice out of their own painful expereinces which do not have to be yours. What some of the people were saying is "don't feel bad because I didn't pass the Bar exam on the first time!" I gave my niece a quote from Hernry Ford, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't - you're right.” As she prepared, I had the opportunity to put her on the phone with two friends (attorneys who are brothers) who passed the California Bar on the first try. In addition, one of the brothers also passed the New York Bar Exam on the first time. I have another friend, a Superior Court Judge, who gave her a call to encourge her and to give some uplifting advice and wisdom on the preparation for getting through the Bar Exam!
What an accomplishment! What strength she gained from postive, affirming, collaborative achievement driven relationships! What about you? Are you the smartest one in the group you hang out with? If you are, you know what to do!
