Thursday July 16th A Special CCC General Body Meeting

On Thursday July 16, 2009 at 8:30 am the Crenshaw Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with chamber member Community Build and other community stakeholders, will have a special meeting TO LISTEN TO YOU to help us design a business workshop that will help your business.  We do not want to make the mistake of ARROGANCE in putting together a workshop with topics that WE THINK THAT YOU NEED! Instead we want you to participate  with active discussion and help us put together a quality business workshop that you help to design.  We will have a panel of business professionals to listen to your requests and we plan on having the workshop in fall of 2009!  It is very important that you attend and participate in the meeting so please RSVP on the Crenshaw Chamber of Commerce Website:   www.crenshawchamber.com  so we can know how many will attend.

Breakfast will be $5.00

Message From Michael

July 1, 2009 Its Half Time. The year is half over and it's time to have a locker room chat! A good friend of mine who lives in Texas sent me an article by Dr. Shirley King, who is president of the board for Pleasant Grove Mission Possible Inc. Dr. King highlighted three important elements needed to reclaim your community.
     1. Economic vibrancy can only take place in an environment where indifference gives away to involvement by every one to create teamwork toward a better quality of life. The residents of the community must have pride in their community and work with law enforcement to set active standards for all members of the community. Residents, businesses, faith –and community based organizations must work together to create an atmosphere of unity and quality of life.
The faith-based community must take a stand setting the moral compass by what it does, not simply what it preaches. Churches can work in powerful ways to become a strong support system for members of the surrounding community by supplying food and clothing pantries. This “faith in action” will make a lasting impact on our community.
Parents in the community must assume full ownership for teaching values of self worth, personal and civic responsibility as well as taking primary responsibility for teaching their children, in partnership with teachers.
Businesses must take pride in their appearance and service. They must be actively engaged in the life of the community in which they earn a living!
     2. A community without political representation is a community doomed to fail on all fronts! Elected officials need to work with and for the constituents that they serve. This is one very good reason for all of us to make sure that we participate in the 2010 Census to make sure that we do not lose any representation due to low or inaccurate counts in our community The community also needs to hold the elected officials accountable with the goal of demanding representation and responsiveness.
     3. A thriving community must have citizens who understand that while elected officials can do some things to help, ultimately it is each individual’s responsibility to do everything possible to make the difference he or she wants to see.
Dr. King makes some very good points that can help us to reclaim our community. The ultimate goal is to work with one another as shared stakeholders to make it happen.
ARE YOUR READY FOR THE SECOND HALF? IT'S GAME TIME!

TAKE ACTION BY FOLLOWING SUGGESTIONS BELOW:

What really sets your business apart from just a name, address, phone number, and email on a directory page is OPTIMIZATION THROUGH THE CREATION OF A CRENSHAW CHAMBER ADVERTISING PAGE.  WE CAN EVEN OFFER YOU AN EMAIL AND A WEBSITE FOR YOUR BUSINESS IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE FOR THE COST OF MEMBERSHIP!   Please follow these four steps to get optimized:

  1. Go to your back office of the website by using your username and password sent to you with the welcome letter to the Crenshaw Chamber of Commerce,
  2. Click on the blinking icon and follow the steps outlined in the template (also notice the free video tutorial available to you)
  3. Follow the template and build your advertising page. (if you want to see a finished page looks like go to the member directory and find Success Management, LLC)
  4. Don't forget to download your free book on "Growing Your Business"  by our business coach Mark Leblanc (also no cost with the price of membership!)  If you have problems call the tech support number list on the back office page.  (READ THE BOOK IT HAS SOME GREAT IDEAS FOR YOUR BUSINESS!)

If you are "computer challenged" we can set you up with someone to help you with your advertising page. Call the Chamber office for more info.  323-293-2900.
