9th California Gold Mush Lake Davis Sled Dog & Snowshoe Race
9 A.M. to 4 P.M.
Sponsored by the Soroptimists International of Portola, Fourteen Angels Foundation, Inc. and the Sierra Nevada Dog Drivers. On Friday from 3 to 5 P.M. a vet check will be held at the Portola City Park this is a chance to meet some of the dogs and their Mushers. The event will be staged at Filippini Flat off of Highway 70 near Maybe so you can see the start of the sled dog teams and end of many of the races. Activities will be based out of Chalet View Lodge (behind on the golf course and south towards the river): Pee Wee Kids Mush (200 yrd. sprint with 1 dog), Snowshoe Fun Run, 2K Snowshoe Race, Demonstrations: Teach Your Dog to Pull, and other demonstrations, Static display of Working Dogs in War and Peace, Ski and snowshoe rentals, snowmobile rental with Ken Smith,and Saturday evening a movie night featuring "Iron Will" will also be offered for kids of all ages at the meeting room (upstairs) at Chalet View Lodge at 6 P.M. Refreshments available.
An important request of dog owners - if your dog is participating in the Fun-Run please leave in your car until the event and if your dog is not participating please do not bring to the location or leave in your car so the dog teams are not distracted and so your dog does not get hurt.
