Chamber Hosts Arlington Woman's Club

The Chamber of Commerce hosted 105 ladies from the Arlington Woman's Club on October 24th at the Connellee Hotel.  The event was catered by Circle M BBQ & Texas Grill, Entertainment was provided by Texas Slim and his entourage, consisting of "Willie Nelson" and "Bob Wills", and a special rendition of an original song by Alice Holliday called "Eastland".  Texas Slim let the group know that EASTLAND IS WHERE IT'S AT!
After a tour of the beautiful Connellee Hotel, the ladies gathered in four groups and were given tours of the Majestic Theater, the Post Office Stamp Mural, the Law Enforcement Museum, and the Historic Eastland Hotel.  Some of the ladies skipped the tours and opted for shopping in downtown Eastland.  They also had the opportunity to see "Old Rip" and to tour the Eastland County Museum.
The two busloads of tourists were given a great send-off by their tour guides, Roberta Broussard, Pam Rose, Patti Dolen, Katherine Gordon Rice, and Amy O'Brien Glenn.  We received a phone call the next day from the club president, saying how much they enjoyed their short time in Eastland, and many of the ladies expressed a desire to return for more shopping!  A letter followed a few days later, saying that they appreciated the hospitalilty shown them by our community.

Girling Health Care Hosts November Mixer

At the November Chamber Mixer at Girling Health Care, 405 E. Commerce, on November 5th, we had a good turnout, some great food, good networking, and fantastic door prizes.
Jim Kennedy won the Kindle Fire HD 7" color touch-screen tablet, and Mark Harris won the beautiful live plant, just in time for his anniverary!  Frances Rivers won a free one-night stay at the beautiful La Quinta Inn & Suites in Eastland, and Old Rip T-shirts were won by Barbara Love and Terry Slavens.  You can see pictures of the event at the Chamber's Facebook page.  The next Chamber Mixer is scheduled for December 3rd, 5pm-6:30pm, at the Connellee Hotel, hosted by the Eastland Community Foundation.  You won't want to miss this one!

Election of Board of Directors

At their regular meeting on November 20th, the Chamber Board took official action to elect new Directors for a three-year term.  The Board has been composed of nine members, and at the annual meeting of the membership last month, a decision was made to increase the Board to eleven.
The terms of Jim Farrar and Clint Coffee will expire on December 31st, and Jim Farrar declined nomination for a consecutive term.  Clint agreed to serve another term, which left three positions to be filled.
The three new Board members are Meghann Long (Meghann's Market), Rosa Cervantez (Girling Health Care), and Terry Slavens (KATX Radio).  Their three-year terms begin on January 1st, 2013.  Officers for 2013 are Teresa Cross (President), Mark Harris (Vice-president), and Jerry Meyerson (Treasurer).
Other Board members are Carolyn White, Trent Swearengin, Eric Whitlock, Clint Coffee, and Angela Robinson (Ex-Officio).  The Board deeply appreciates Jim Farrar's dedication and service to the Chamber.
