Players To Audition for Murder Mystery and Twisted Hamlet! (04/09/10)
The Silver Stage Players continue their 2010 Season: 2010 – A Stage Odyssey by proudly announcing auditions for Tom Stoppard's four-time Tony Award winning classic Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and the dinner-theater, murder mystery Murder on the Oriental Rug.
Auditions will take place in the Northeastern Nevada Museum theater April 14 and 15, 2010 from 6 - 8 pm. All performers with or without experience are invited to try out. Two-minute, prepared, comedic pieces are encouraged but are not required. Cold readings from the two scripts and theater games will also be conducted. Technicians wishing to volunteer for either production are encouraged to attend one of the two audition dates as well.
Murder on the Oriental Rug is the murder mystery play written by Mary Lou Ambrose and Tony Schwartz. The show will be directed by Chisholm Morris and catered by Elko’s very own Flying Fish restaurant. A May production run is slated. The show is a play within a play. When half of the cast of Murder on the Oriental Rug bails out, the remaining performers are stuck playing all the roles. During the first act, you’ll meet a Shakespearean actor with a drinking problem, a washed-up former child star, a bimbo with a short memory, and a hapless costumer who finds herself onstage -- playing a man. Will the play make it to Broadway? Will the performers remember their lines? Will the Shakespearean actor fit into the maid’s costume? Will the chalk outline come out of the rug? Will the inspector solve the murder? Will another murder occur?
“Did you ever think of yourself as actually dead, lying in a box with a lid on it?”
An ingenious comedy with an existential twist, R&G is coming this July, and you can't miss a minute of the action! Audition now for the show that the New York Times called "a most remarkable and thrilling play...a work of fascinating distinction..." Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead is an absurdist, existentialistic tragicomedy by Tom Stoppard. The 1968 Broadway’s Best Play Tony Award winner centers about the exploits of two minor characters from William Shakespeare's Hamlet. The action of Stoppard's play takes place mainly 'in the wings' of Shakespeare's, with brief appearances of major characters from Hamlet. Between these episodes our two anti-heroes voice their opinions and their confusion at the progress of events around them. Celebrating his fifteen year anniversary and directing the Players for the nineteenth time, is SSP actor and director Frank L. Sawyer.
Celebrating its 74th anniversary, the Silver Stage Players is dedicated to providing the finest theater, community service and educational opportunities to its members and the residents of northeastern Nevada. Its history is one of creativity and thought provoking theater. The company has challenged audiences, pushed the envelope of live theater and attracted the area's most talented actors, designers and directors since the 1930s. Recent productions include The Last U.S. Mail Stage Robbery, Lysistrata, Death of a Doornail, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Man of La Mancha, and Much Ado About Nothing.
