Halloween Fest 2014
Thank you to everyone who has donated prizes for this event! We are still in need of a few judges, so let me know if you would like to help out! The kids in our communities look forward to this event each year. I love meeting adults who won the scream contest when they were kids, such fun stories and memories! We are working really hard to get the word out that trick or treating begins at 5pm after the contests, so that businesses have an opportunity to finish up their workday before getting lots of cotume clad trick or treaters.
Public Transportation in Southern Humboldt
We have 3 different busses that move people in, out, and around Humboldt County. Some of our membership has requested some more consolidated information to pass along to travelers. In the office we get a large number of requests for this, so I am happy to share with others. Many people who come here, or are traveling through, have a really hard time figuring out how to leave!
Traveling within Humboldt and around Southern Humboldt Humboldt Transit Authority provides transportation from Benbow to the North. They have 2 different service lines for Southern Humboldt. The Southern Humboldt Intercity route takes passengers north of here, while the Southern Humboldt Local Bus System moves passengers between Benbow and Miranda.
Traveling to and from Humboldt County-
Amtrak comes through Garberville a few times of day according to their booking schedule. Most of their busses leaving Garberville heading south to San Francisco leave at 8:15 am or 11:55 am. It appears that there is no weekend service for departing Garberville. They drop passengers off here from all over the country at 3pm and 8pm Monday through Saturday. Click here for a map of their stations along the 101. Booking information can be found here.
Greyhound picks up passengers in Garberville 7 days per week at 11:20 am at the Humboldt Bar & Grill (their site still says Waterwheel, they are unwilling to change it although I have requested it…). I believe that tickets must be purchased ahead of time, although I have gotten conflicting stories about it. For purchasing information click here. They also bring passenger to Garberville every day at about 9pm.
Talia Rose at Organic Grace was able to get this information as well- "They pay when they arrive to the first city that has a ticket booth and the driver will make them get off a pay, BUT the trick is that they have to call Greyhound and reserve their ticket because the ticket holder passes the info onto the driver! The driver will not let some random person on without the ticket holders ok and they have to show their ID to the driver to verify name!."
