MAKE 2011 A YEAR OF SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE

4. Resolve to provide fall protection for all employees, especially when they are working above the ground floor. This includes inspecting ladders before they are used, and choosing the proper ladder for the job. It also includes fall restraints if necessary.
5. Resolve to create a safety plan that is unique to your place of business and ensure all employees understand all workplace safety policies and procedures. The SCF Safety Template is free and a good place to start, as it provides step-by-step instructions on how to put together a safety plan. You can download the Safety Template from our website, www.scfaz.com, and go to the Safety button, then hit resources.
6. Resolve to provide all workers with proper personal protection equipment for the job, and be sure your employees wear these items when required. Whether it is a hard hat or safety goggles, the proper PPE can protect workers from falling objects to debris that could fly into unprotected eyes.
7. Resolve to provide all workers with hazardous communications materials that apply to the job. All employees should be fully informed of the job hazards and what they should do if they come in contact with hazardous materials, chemicals or gasses.

8. Resolve to evaluate work stations for all employees – including those in the clerical positions – to ensure the work station fits the employee, rather than force the worker to fit the station. This could help prevent ergonomic or repetitive stress injuries.
9. Resolve to call on SCF Arizona’s Loss Control Consultant to evaluate your workplace. These safety experts will collaborate with you to analyze potential workplace hazards and work with you to create solutions to ensure a safe workplace to protect your workforce.
10. Resolve to treat all near accidents or close calls as seriously as if it were an actual accident. Investigate the incident for the causes and explore solutions on how to avoid them.
11. Resolve to be safe and prosperous throughout 2011 … and beyond.
