Don't miss this "All You Can Eat" Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at the American Legion Hall (one block south of the square acrosss from the Post Office).  They will start serving at 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Cost is $6 for Adults and Children 10 & under $3.  The menu includes pancakes, sausages, syrup, juice, milk, and coffee.  Tickets can be purchased at the Chamber, Chumbley's Auto, Kiwanis members, or at the door!

Don't cook breakfast on September 20.  It's already done!

Members of the Indianola Chamber of Commerce enjoy the member benefits offered by the Greater Des Moines Partnership.  We collaborate with the Partnership to provide you with tools and resources to make your business more effective.
 
Earlier this year, The Partnership launched the Des Moines Regional Research, Stats and Data Hub, a statistical dashboard filled with rich information on the Greater Des Moines area. Users will find leading indicators along with research and data trends needed to make business and policy decisions. The site offers current economic, demographic, and workforce information sourced from official government data on the five-county Des Moines MSA and six nearby counties.
 
All of the research is accessible free of charge and is presented in an easy-to-use format.  Charts and data can be captured and used in other presentations.

Warren County Business Grant Contest Begins

Warren County Economic Development Corp.’s second annual Warren
County Small Business Grant contest is underway. Now through September 14th existing small businesses and start-up businesses in Warren County are encouraged to enter at

Three finalists in each category will present their business ideas to a panel of judges at a Grant Event on October 9th at Simpson College in Indianola. The Existing Business winner will receive a $6,000 grant and the Start-Up Business winner will receive a $3,000 grant.

Last year, grants were awarded to Norwalk Chiropractic, for the existing business category, and to Studio Fusco for the start-up business category. The owner of Norwalk Chiropractic used the funds to help with expansion and new building plans in Norwalk, and the owners of Studio Fusco put their winnings towards opening a new store on the Indianola town square. Both businesses are currently enjoying a very successful year with continued growth plans.

Theisen's Presents Two Great Opportunities

Direct Grants and Free Food Preservation Class

Theisen’s More for Your Community Grant Applications Due August 31
 
The 2015 Theisen’s More for Your Community Grants are due Aug. 31. This year, more than $200,000 in total grants will be distributed to the region served by Theisen’s Home•Farm•Auto, with each store having at least $5,000 available. The maximum request per project application is $5,000.
 
The More for Your Community Program will make direct grants to agencies to jumpstart and/or sustain projects that most effectively and directly serve the basic needs of families and children, which include food, shelter, education, safety and health. Applicants must be 501(c)(3), nonprofit, government-sponsored or school-sponsored organizations and that directly serve children and families within a 60-mile radius of a Theisen’s Home•Farm•Auto store.
 
The online application process is open now at www.dbqfoundation.org/Theisens.  Directions to access the online site are also available at the checkouts at each store.  Applications are due August 31, 2015!

Theisen’s presents free canning class Aug. 31
 
Not sure what to do with all the excess produce in your summer vegetable garden?
Planning a garden for next year?  Find out how to preserve food safely at home! 
 
“Food Preservation 101,” a fun, free ISU Extension class about general food preservation principles will be given Monday, Aug. 31, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Theisen’s Home-Farm-Auto, 2312 N. Jefferson Way, Indianola.
 
The class includes current recommendations for canning, freezing and drying. No actual hands-on preservation will be done in class. Participants will be able to inspect and discuss a variety of food canning and drying supplies and equipment. All will receive a list of accurate and safe food preservation resources. The purpose of the class is to help beginners decide which method of food preservations is right for them and to remind experienced canners of the latest safety recommendations.
 
Theisen’s will provide light refreshments and food preservation door prizes.
