November 2022

Chairman's Corner

Brian Avery

Greetings Fellow Members,
It's hard to believe the year is almost over!  We have now entered the Holiday Season which hopefully brings the usual boost to our local hospitality and retail businesses. It's also the time of year when we should take inventory of the things we are grateful for. Personally, I'm quite grateful for our strong Chamber community. We have a wonderful group of Staff and Volunteers whose hard work allows us to host some seriously great events.  In addition to our usual monthly functions, we have our 'Christmas Over the Decades' parade in Palmdale next month, on December 10th. This event wouldn't be possible without the efforts of the City of Palmdale and our Chamber team, so please plan on getting out there next month to enjoy this fantastic Christmas Parade.

Lastly, I hope you can join us for the ribbon cutting for the Street Company on November 14th at 12pm. I recently worked with Co-Founder Jesse Lee and his team, infusing their wonderful coffee beans into one of our beers at Bravery Brewing (the results were delicious!). It's great what Jesse and his team are doing for the community at Street Company, and I'd love for our members to learn more about their program. Please make sure to mark your calendars for all the important dates and again, thank you for your continued support.

Brian Avery
Chairman of the Board

Join us for our November Luncheon! We are looking forward to hearing from the Antelope Valley Partners for Health on their AV Cessation Collaborative.

This year, both Palmdale and Lancaster updated their outdoor smoking ordinance to decrease secondhand smoke exposure. The Cessation Capacity Building program is a collaboration that is working towards supporting those who wish to quit smoking by creating more effective and accessible cessation training models to strengthen cessation capacity and infrastructure in low socioeconomic status and rural areas of the Antelope Valley.

We look forward to seeing you there! Be sure to bring plenty of business cards and a raffle prize!

Member Highlight - California Furniture Depot

In 2016, Leonard and Shari Egstrom decided to offer their real estate clients above and beyond customer service even after their home closed escrow. The next step in owning a home is furnishing it so with that thinking in mind, California Furniture Depot was established. They started in a humble 2k sq ft space with just a handful of companies and have grown to a 13k square ft building with a wide selection of high-end, handcrafted products. Leonard and Shari remain completely hands-on as owners and in the daily operations of the store. They credit their amazing staff and clients for their longevity and growth and will continue to provide the Antelope Valley award-winning service for many years to come.

Please help us welcome Maykely Rain to the team!!

Maykely, born in Colombia and implanted into the Antelope Valley, recently graduated from California State University Northridge with a major in Hospitality and Tourist Management. She is very excited to work at the AV Chambers of Commerce and get to know the community. The excitement of being a part of such a great organization where we can bring connection and resources to our members is exactly where Maykely sees her future. Growing up she never really felt that she was a part of a community and now is her time to shine!
