Sangre de Cristo Electric chief executive officer, Paul Erickson applied for two matching grants and received word in October that SDCEA had received both the matching grants - $5,000 for Operation Round Up® and $1,000 for the American Red Cross. Erickson commented that he was “glad that the matching grants were awarded to Sangre de Cristo Electric. This is the cooperative business model at its best. We were able to replenish Operation Round Up’s coffers with $5,000 so that they can make more contributions in our community. At the same time, we provided $2,000 to the American Red Cross to help with some much needed wildfire relief here in Colorado.”

Operation Round Up® is a community service program developed to gather voluntary contributions from participating members by “rounding up” their monthly Sangre de Cristo Electric bill to the next dollar. The amount collected goes in the Round Up account and is administered by a board of directors that reviews applications for funding and determines how the collected funds will be disbursed. Currently there are more than 1,500 Sangre de Cristo Electric members participating in the program. The more members who participate in the program, the more the community-based organizations can enjoy donations. Members can sign up to participate at any time and are encouraged to join in having their small change make a big difference. Contact Linda Nyberg in Member Services for more information.
