Sangre de Cristo Electric Announces 2013 Scholarship Winners

A scholarship committee consisting of SDCEA directors and employees tackled the difficult task of determining scholarship winners. 

Jessica Kerr, daughter of Sharon Kerr of Buena Vista, received the four-year scholarship at $1,500 per year. She is planning on attending University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado. 

The eleven $1,500 scholarships funded by SDCEA’s unclaimed capital credits went to:
 Tanner Klein, son of Chris and William Ortiz of Nathrop, attending Colorado University in Boulder, Colorado.
 Ryan Garrett, son of M.P. Garrett of Cotopaxi, attending Colorado State University in Pueblo, Colorado.
 Ashton White, daughter of Jonna and Fred White of Westcliffe, attending Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama.
 Codi Miller, daughter of Suzanne and David Miller of Buena Vista, attending West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas.
 Jacob Boucher, son of Rhoda and Joe Boucher of Buena Vista, attending Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado.
 Daniel Carr, son of Joyce and Mike Carr of Buena Vista, attending Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.
 Graham Bachmann, son of Jeanne Shane of Buena Vista, attending Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado.
 Tesha Helbert, daughter of Janet Parker-Helbert of Nathrop, attending Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado.
 Kayla Boria, daughter of Donna Boria of Buena Vista, attending Colorado Mesa University in Grant Junction, Colorado.
 Alexandra Knox, daughter of Jeff Knox of Buena Vista, attending the Art Institute of Colorado in Denver, Colorado.
 Shannon Hewling, daughter of Ralph Hewling of Buena Vista, attending Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado.

The Scholarship Committee awarded the $1,000 scholarship sponsored by Basin Electric to Alexcia Koch, daughter of Amber Dahlberg of Buena Vista, attending Lamar Community College in Lamar, Colorado.

The two $1,000 scholarships sponsored jointly by Tri-State and SDCEA were awarded to Kelsie Plackner, daughter of Julie and Vern Plackner of Buena Vista, attending Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado, and Haley Huffman, daughter of Lea Ann & Jerry Johnson of Buena Vista, also attending Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado. 

SDCEA is a non-profit, rural electric cooperative that provides electric service to over 12,000 consumers in Lake, Chaffee, Fremont, Custer and Saguache counties.
