Director's Corner

Hello Members,
The summer continues to roll on as we enter one of the busiest times of year with our Trail 100 mountain bike and foot races.  I would like to pass on a personal observation that is contrary to what is sometimes heard around town regarding people here for the races.

It has been said that race participants, family and crew do not appreciate the mining heritage, history, museums and other attractions that Leadville has to offer.  From what I have seen at the visitor center, folks are here for the races days or weeks ahead of time, and they do not sit idle.  They are coming in looking for information and activities to fill their time until the event.

These visitors may not be fully exploring what Lake County has to offer on the actual days of the events, but the money they are spending, and the places and attractions that they are taking in around this time of year, will produce memories and experiences that promote a positive image and reputation of Leadville that will spread well beyond our county borders.  Many of these people will return again to our fine community at other times of the year, or spread the word to others who will visit.

The Chamber of Commerce and Visitor's Center will continue to welcome everyone related to these events with smiles and open arms, and will do everything possible to educate them on everything that Leadville and Lake County has to offer.

Thank you, and we at the Chamber continue to appreciate the welcoming atmosphere Leadvillites strive to provide.

Leadville Chamber will host BBQ and Brew Festival Summer of 2014!

ANNOUNCEMENT:  The Leadville/Lake County Chamber of Commerce has firmed up dates for a great Summer 2014 event.

The Leadville BBQ and Brew Festival will be July 18-19, 2014 and will feature a Kansas City BBQ Society sponsored BBQ contest, numerous micro-brew and beer vendors, and a great selection of live music.

This event will be hosted by the Chamber and will hopefully develop into an annual attraction that has the potential to draw many thousands of visitors to Leadville for a weekend of great food and fun.

Frisco, CO has hosted a highly successful BBQ event for 20 years that attracts 30,000 people annually, and Fairplay hosted its first BBQ contest in June of this year.  Leadville fits nicely into this mix to create a high country environment that BBQ and festival enthusiasts will look forward to every year.

Much more information about this event will be coming out in the near future as details are worked on, sponsorship opportunities published, and event participants are signed-on.

If anyone has any early questions related to this event, please contact the Chamber at 486-3900.

Mile High Jeep Club enjoyed Leadville!

The Mile High Jeep Club held its 47th annual "All-4-Fun" event in Lake County from Sunday July 28th to this past Sunday, August 4th.

The event ended up attracting over 800 people and more than 250 vehicles.  As evidenced by the number of Jeeps frequently parked in town, event participants spent a fair amount of time (and money!) in Leadville and Twin Lakes shopping, dining, and patronizing Lake County businesses.

Every comment heard in the visitor center was positive, and given the number of states represented by participants, the appeal of Leadville as a 'must-visit' destination was hopefully spread far and wide.

We hope to see these folks back en masse in another four years, and Leadville will likely see individual 4x4 enthusiasts returning for more many times prior to that.

Thank you to every business who provided a welcoming atmosphere to visitors attending this event!!
