Taste of Success

Rose Ryan-Vice President

Sunday, May 15, 2011, from 2:00p.m.-6:00p.m., over 3000 people came out to sample a “taste” of Leon Valley’s best area restaurants and beverage companies with this food and entertainment filled afternoon. The City’s Economic Development Department partnered with the Leon Valley Economic Development Corporation, the Leon Valley Library, Community Development, the Leon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, NISD/John Marshall High School, and the Leon Valley Historical Society to bring this fun filled food, beverage and entertainment event to our community. The Leon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce was instrumental in securing grant funding from the Leon Valley Economic Development Corporation to conduct this event.

A great time was had by all. The Bob Bass Band was the featured entertainment, and the band showcased their soulful Jazz talents to the crowd’s pleasure outdoors. Inside the Community Center smooth Jazz tunes were presented by guitarist Day Ryan. The entertainment didn’t stop there, as more music and dance was provided by the students of John Marshall High School, such as the JMHS Orchestra and the Star Stepper Dance Team, and others. And, kids’ activities were enjoyed by all in the Library area, such as a Dunk Tank, Velcro Wall and a Moon Bounce, as well as face painting, storytelling and various arts and crafts.
The Tree Advisory Board (TAB) also gave away free trees to Leon Valley residents. The 1st Annual “Taste of Leon Valley” event was held at the Community & Conference Center grounds, at 6427 Evers Rd, Leon Valley, TX 78238. The event was free (open to the public) and vendors sold their samples for a fee. Over 60 vendors were showcased, including an electric car, the “VOLT”, provided by Ancira Chevrolet. We hope everyone had a great time showcasing our area businesses, tasting all the delicious food, and promoting tourism for our City. For more information, see: www.TasteofLeonValley.com
