Brevard Schools Foundation to Give Away Free Supplies during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
The Brevard Schools Foundation will host Shop from the Heart, a giveaway event to benefit local homeless students, during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.  Nearly 100 homeless student liaison teachers in Brevard Public Schools are invited to the Supply Zone for Teachers on Thursday, November 17th to receive free school supplies, books, hygiene kits, and clothing.  The liaisons will then distribute these items to the homeless students at their schools.

Nearly 2,000 identified homeless children were enrolled in Brevard Public Schools last year.  Two hundred of those students were “unaccompanied youth” – they had no parent or guardian taking care of them.  Many of these children are lacking basic items including warm clothing, hygiene products, and school supplies.  The Supply Zone hosts Shop from the Heart every year in order to ensure that these children have the tools they need to learn and succeed in school.

Shop from the Heart has been made possible by the generosity of local businesses, organizations, and members of the community.  The Supply Zone serves teachers and students all year long, though, so donations are always needed.

100 Gobblers for Brevard's Needy
Whittaker Cooper helps Space Coast Basket Brigade with Thanksgiving dinners --volunteers still needed for Nov. 20 event

From 0 to 1500 in just six short years!  The Space Coast Basket Brigade began by simply sharing four baskets of Thanksgiving food items for a few families in 2010 and the grass roots organization has now grown to a giant annual community service project.  Dawn Bradford set up collection boxes for food in the Melbourne and Viera offices of Whittaker Cooper Financial Group and invited her co-workers to join her and the approximately 600 volunteers who will gather for a day of service to others on Sunday, November 20 from 10 AM - 3 PM in the Satellite High School gymnasium (300 Scorpion Court, 32937).  Together, volunteers will exceed last year's 1272 total and assemble, decorate and personally deliver baskets to 1500 pre-registered families up and down the 72-mile Space Coast.  Bradford's employer, Whittaker Cooper Financial Group donated 100 turkeys for the Thanksgiving project.  For more information about Whittaker Cooper Financial Group or to volunteer for the Space Coast Basket Brigade, call Dawn Bradford at 321-723-3352.

FEMA Registration and SBA Disaster Loan Application are Key to Hurricane Recovery
For many Floridians who need help recovering from Hurricane Matthew, registering with FEMA and completing a disaster loan application from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) are essential.

To be considered for all forms of disaster assistance, survivors should first register for assistance with FEMA, in any of the following ways:
• Online at disasterassistance.gov;
• On the FEMA Mobile App;
• Call FEMA at 800-621-3362 (voice, 711/VRS-Video Relay Service) (TTY: 800-462-7585). Multilingual operators are available (for Spanish, press 2);
• At a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC). To find the nearest one, go online to the DRC locator at asd.fema.gov/inter/locator. SBA representatives at all Disaster Recovery Centers will help individuals complete and submit loan applications and answer any questions.
