Treetop Trek extends hours for summer season
Thrill seekers craving a reprieve from the looming heat and humidity can get an early start at Treetop Trek this summer. The nature-based attraction will open at 8 a.m. (an hour before the usual open time) daily from Sunday, May 28 to Monday, September 4.
“Outdoor fun doesn’t have to stop in the summer,” said attractions manager Nancy Wright. “Getting on a course earlier means you can avoid the extreme heat and afternoon thunderstorms we typically see this time of year.”

Run for the Gecko 5K and Running Zone, Inc celebrates 14 Years!
Austin Camps scored his second straight Running Zone Foundation Race Series victory on May 13, capturing the season-ending Run for the Gecko 5K. The victory by Camps, 18 of Melbourne Beach, also earned him the series overall male championship for the 2016-2017 season, making him one of the youngest champions in the series 12 seasons. The series overall female championship went to Melbourne’s Kaitlin Donner, 27, for the second straight season.
The 14th anniversary of the running of Gecko also capped another successful year for the seven-event Running Zone Foundation Race Series. The race was run on a new course, starting and ending at Melbourne’s Wickham Park Community Center. “We had a great season,” said Running Zone co-owner and race director Denise Piercy. “The series just concluded its 12th season and as has been in the case for the previous years overall participation increased as did the smiles of runners and walkers crossing the finish lines. We now look forward to an even better 2017-18 season.”
The 2017-2018 series kicks off with the Firecracker 5K on Tuesday, July 4 at a new venue, Melbourne’s Front Street Civic Center. For complete series information, visit www.runningzone.com/series

VNA Space Coast receives 5-star rating in patient satisfaction
Recently, VNA Space Coast Home Health received a 5-star rating by Medicare’s ‘Home Health Compare’ in patient satisfaction. Home Health Compare provides the public information about the quality of care and patient satisfaction provided by “Medicare-certified” home health agencies throughout the nation. VNA Space Coast received a 5-star rating in the patient survey category, which measures: care of patients; communication between home health providers and patients; specific care issues; and overall patient care rating. VNA also received a 4.5 star rating for quality of patient care, a category measured by nine criteria ranging from timely initiation of care to improvement of pain interfering with activity. Medicare.gov states that ‘star ratings were developed to make it easier to use the information Home Health Compare and to spotlight excellence in healthcare quality.’
“ We strive to provide the highest quality care to all of our patients and families in collaboration with their physicians,” said VNA President & CEO, Mary Linn Hamilton. “It is with great pride that our efforts are demonstrated by these ratings to reflect this high level of quality. While the majority of home health agencies in the nation are in the 3-3.5 star category, our 5-star rating is achieved by only 2% of agencies nationwide. I am so proud of what we are able to accomplish, which would not be possible without all of our staff supporting each other.” To learn more about how the VNA cares for Brevard County please visit www.vnatc.com, or call 321-752-7550.
