Project Lemonade at Panera Bread - Aug. 4th & 5th

Panera Bread will host Project Lemonade on August 4th and 5th in all of their cafes. Project Lemonade is a charity event they hold every year to benefit Hibiscus Children's Center as well as Children's Home Society of Florida. It is a fun event where each cafe builds a lemonade stand and gives out a sample of Lemonade in exchange for a donation to one of those two charities. Please stop in to a Panera Bread restaurant on either day and support these two great charities.

Play Melbourne wins two statewide awards

Play Melbourne’s “Get out and Play” outreach and sponsorship program has won two statewide awards — the Florida League of Cities’ Florida Citizenship Award and the Florida Recreation and Parks Association’s Public Relations Award.

The Florida Citizenship Award recognizes city programs that increase civic awareness and education and promote active participation in city government. It is one of three Florida Municipal Achievement Awards that are presented annually by the Florida League of Cities to recognize excellence and innovation.
The Florida Recreation and Parks Association’s Public Relations Award is presented annually to a Florida agency that significantly impacts the public’s awareness and recognition of public parks, recreation and leisure services programs through marketing and public relations.

The “Get Out and Play” outreach and sponsorship program was launched in late 2015 to increase awareness, promote active participation in recreation programs, and increase the use of city parks.

The campaign included a complete rebranding of the Parks and Recreation Department, including development of new signage, new uniforms for staff, new website, new Facebook page, and new videos.

“We are honored to receive these statewide awards and are extremely proud of our community’s response to the ‘Get Out and Play’ program,” said Melbourne Mayor Kathy Meehan. “Our citizens and local businesses take pride in this city and truly believe in getting involved and giving back. Their support has been overwhelmingly positive.”

Local businesses, nonprofits sought for Boo at the Zoo

October is quickly approaching and Brevard Zoo is preparing plenty of tricks and treats for this year’s Boo at the Zoo. This all-inclusive, all-ages annual event, which is more than 20 years running, features live entertainment, nightly costume contests, the “Boo Choo” train ride and, of course, plenty of trick-or-treating. New this year are the haunted “Hall of Illusions” and an original puppet show.

The Zoo is seeking local businesses and community organizations to sponsor treat stations. Sponsors can choose to participate for one, two or all three weekends. Packages begin at $300.
“Trick-or-treating in a safe, fun atmosphere is the main draw for the thousands of families that attend Boo at the Zoo,” said Chris Stagman, corporate relations manager at the Zoo. “Treat station sponsors help us create that environment, and their contributions support the Zoo’s animal wellness, conservation and education programs.”

This year’s event runs October 13–15, 20–22 and 27–29 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Sundays. Interested parties should contact Stagman at cstagman@brevardzoo.org or 321-254-9453, ext. 485. More information about sponsorships and the event itself is available at www.brevardzoo.org/special-events/boo-at-the-zoo.
