Millefiori Medical Skin Rejuvenation - Building for the future

FSBDC at Eastern Florida State College Assists Skin Care Boutique Develop Robust Financial and Business Management Processes

Having a great idea for a new business is only the beginning for an entrepreneur. After the market has been researched and the business plan is written and the funding has been arranged, the company opens its doors. And that’s when the fun starts; now the business needs to be managed.

Iris and Kyle Graham, founders and owners of Millefiori Medical Skin Rejuvenation, had just that experience. Millefiori MSR is a boutique medical spa offering aesthetic skin care services including facials, chemical peels and micro-needling for tattoo removal, as well as Botox, laser and injection treatments. They cater to a high-end clientele in Melbourne, FL where they are extremely active in the community.

“I network a lot in our community,” continued Kyle Graham. “I was telling people about the 30 – 35 hours a month we were spending on our financial system. And someone said that the FSBDC could help us systematize it and make it a lot quicker.”

Supply Zone for Teachers becomes a full affiliate member of the Kids in Need Foundation

The Kids In Need Foundation, a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing free school supplies to economically disadvantaged school children and under-funded teachers, announced today it has elevated two of its Junior Affiliate teacher free stores to Full Affiliate status, including the Supply Zone for Teachers, a program of the Brevard Schools Foundation.  Full Affiliates being added to the Kids In Need Foundation National Network of Resource Centers are located in Cocoa, Florida, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The addition of Supply Zone for Teachers, a program of the Brevard Schools Foundation, in Cocoa, and The Pencil Box in Tulsa, brings the total number of affiliates in the Kids In Need Foundation National Network to 41 centers.  Inclusion in the network is by evaluation only and is based on a center’s stability and efficiency, among other criteria.

Dino-mite programs begin at Brevard Zoo

Now through May, Brevard Zoo’s education department is offering action-packed experiences for children ages 2–13 and, in some cases, their parents. Each class is taught by a trained professional and typically includes animal encounters, games, crafts and a peek behind the scenes of Zoo operations.

Programs include Zooper Kids (ages 2–4), night hikes (ages 5–12), overnights (ages 7–12), Jr. Zookeeper Club (ages 10–13) and Jr. Zoo Crew (homeschooled students ages 5–12). Many activities have a prehistoric theme to coincide with the Zoo’s temporary Dinosaurs Are Back! exhibit.

Families with an insatiable appetite for fossilized fun can register for Donuts With Dinos on the mornings of January 20, February 24 and March 24, and Dining With Dinos on the evenings of January 27 and March 3.
More information and registration is available at www.brevardzoo.org/education/experiences

Sabal Elementary students brand new MPD outreach program

Before the holidays, students in Mr. Dorricott’s Sixth Grade class at Sabal Elementary won a competition to brand a new Melbourne Police Department elementary school outreach program. The sixth-graders came up with the winning name “COPS” or “Cool Outside Programs at School” and even designed a logo for the program, which was started this fall by Community Resource Officer Ben Slover.

“The idea behind the COPS program was to reach out to and give children a chance to get to know Melbourne police officers in a positive setting,” said Lt. Cheryl Trainer, who oversees community outreach for the Melbourne Police Department. “Middle and high school students get to interact with our officers through the School Resource Officer program, but we don’t have dedicated officers at elementary schools.”

Senator Hukill's Taxpayer's Advocate Bill advances past first committee

Senator Dorothy L. Hukill’s (R-Port Orange) bill allowing for the State Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate to have more accountability to Florida citizens has passed its first Senate Committee with unanimous support.

Senator Hukill’s legislation, SB 826, will grant the State’s Taxpayer Advocate more independence in being able to provide assistance to Floridians who encounter tax related issues. The bill requires the advocate to submit annual reports outlining the issues faced by taxpayers throughout the year. The submission of these reports is designed to provide the taxpayers of Florida more transparency and accountability from the Taxpayer Advocate.

The Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate helps taxpayers relieve complaints and problems that are unable to be resolved administratively through the Department of Revenue. Certain issues the Taxpayer Advocate may assist with include, but are not limited to, filing issues, extensions, and mistakes on forms.

“The Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate provides an important service. If there are issues that arise dealing with taxes, I think it’s helpful to have someone who will be there to provide assistance and support,” said Senator Hukill.
