Registration now open for Brevard Zoo summer camps

There may still be a few weeks left of winter, but parents looking ahead can start planning their children’s summer schedules by registering them for camps at Brevard Zoo.

“Summer camps are always a great time of year,” said education curator Janelle Cummins. “Everyone at the Zoo gets excited. The kids spend time outdoors, explore the Zoo, meet lots of animals, go behind the scenes and make friends. It’s a totally unique, hands-on educational experience."

From May 29 to August 3, the Zoo is offering a variety of half-day and full-day camps for children entering kindergarten through ninth grade. Topics encompass animal adaptations, conservation, the work of wildlife researchers and the “yucky” side of science.

An early bird discount applies to campers registered before Thursday, April 15. Additional discounts for some camps are available to Zoo members. Registration and more information is available at www.brevardzoo.org/zoo-camps.

The Boeing Company Awarded Milestone Award

Brevard Schools Foundation is pleased to announce The Boeing Company as the recipient of the prestigious 2018 Milestone Award.  This award of distinction is presented to organizations who have donated in excess of one million dollars to support Brevard Public Schools through the Brevard Schools Foundation.  To date, only two companies have been awarded this honor.

As a longtime partner with the Brevard Schools Foundation, Boeing has provided funding in a variety of areas, from professional development programs for teaching staff and STEAM-focused programs to classroom grants that are creating “FUSE” labs and school supply drives to ensure children have the tools they need to excel in the classroom. These contributions have had a significant, positive impact in Brevard Public Schools.

Operation BUSted aims to reduce traffic violations, keep kids safe at school bus stops

The Melbourne Police Department has launched “Operation BUSted” — a new traffic-safety campaign aimed at keeping children safe by reducing the number of cars and other vehicles that illegally pass stopped school buses.

“Our officers are working with drivers to make sure they know what the law requires and the dangers associated with noncompliance, both in terms of potential fines and penalties, as well as the high likelihood they could injure a child – or worse,” said Sgt. Daniel Desormier, Melbourne Police Department Traffic Unit Supervisor.
