Qualities of relationships (such as satisfaction and commitment) and how couples communicate have an effect on individual sexual behavior and health. To better understand how sexual health is influenced by relationships and sexual partners, Marie Harvey and Jocelyn Warren of the College of Public Health & Human Sciences have conducted interviews with young adults in Oregon and California. At the Corvallis Science Pub, they will briefly discuss what we know about sexual health in the United States, share their methods for delving into such sensitive topics and discuss what they’ve learned from their most recent studies. Warren is a post-doctoral researcher whose interests include reproductive health, public health interventions and disease prevention among young adults. For more than 25 years, Harvey has focused her research on the prevention of unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections among high-risk women, men and couples; and the influence of relationship and contextual factors on protective behaviors and sexual risk-taking. The purpose of the banquet is to raise money for the Lela Community Water Project in Kenya. EWB-OSU has developed a partnership with Lela and is planning the first implementation of the project. This summer students will travel to Kenya to oversee completion of a community well and expansion of a rainwater collection system at the Lela Primary School. In some cases students have requested an interview with you, and others have been randomly assigned.
