Host Families Needed For Exchange Students PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTLOCAL CONTACT: ASSE Western Region NON PROFIT 1-800-733-2773 #95-303-4133LOCAL FAMILIES NEEDED FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTSASSE International Student Exchange Programs (ASSE) is seeking local host families for international high school boys and girls. These students are 15 to 18 years of age, and are coming to this area for the upcoming high school year or semester. These personable and academically selected exchange students are conversant in English, bright, curious and anxious to learn about this country through living as part of a family, attending high school and sharing their own culture and language with their newly adopted host family. The exchange students arrive from their home country shortly before school begins and return at the end of the school year or semester. Each ASSE student is fully insured, brings his or her own personal spending money and expects to contribute to his or her share of household responsibilities, as well as being included in normal family activities and lifestyles. The students are well screened and qualified by ASSE. Families can choose their students from a wide variety of backgrounds, nationalities and personal interests. The mere act of coming together to discuss Alzheimers and sharing experiences validates and confirms each members ability to cope with his or her situation and that of his or her loved one.The group is led by Mary Shapiro, MSG, who has spent many years working with the families of people suffering from Alzheimers disease and dementia and has provided support and understanding to many people throughout her career.The Alzheimers support group meets on the third Thursday of every month at 11:30 AM in the Homestead's library and there is no cost to attend. STOP DUI STOP DUI will feature guest speaker Sandy Heverly, co-founder/executive director and victim advocate for STOP DUI, a Nevada grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to stopping the violent crime of driving under the influence and assisting the victims of this crime. Boulder City Gingerbread House Contest and Market People of all ages build gingerbread houses. They bring them to this event to win prizes and ribbons. All houses will be auctioned off and the proceeds will be donated to charity. The charity is " The Gingerbread House Miracle" it is a 501(c)(3) charity (applied for). We also have vending booths with a variety of gifts suitable for Christmas. There will be hot food and an assortment of soft drinks. The mere act of coming together to discuss Alzheimers and sharing experiences validates and confirms each members ability to cope with his or her situation and that of his or her loved one.The group is led by Mary Shapiro, MSG, who has spent many years working with the families of people suffering from Alzheimers disease and dementia and has provided support and understanding to many people throughout her career.The Alzheimers support group meets on the third Thursday of every month at 11:30 AM in the Homestead's library and there is no cost to attend.
