Surprise Fine Art & Wine Festival

Super Bowl XLIX, isn’t the only event ‘must attend’ event in Arizona, in February - visitors are welcomed to extend their stay and visit Thunderbird Artists’ Surprise Fine Art & Wine Festival, the following weekend.

Thunderbird Artists, leading producer of award-winning fine art and wine festivals in the Southwest, is once again partnering with the City of Surprise for the 3rd Annual Surprise Fine Art & Wine Festival, February 6th, 7th & 8th, 2015. Sharon Brening, oil painter extraordinaire, is the featured artist for the event. Sharon specializes in capturing traditional Native American customs.
Sharon Brening’s passion for art began at age ten, when her mother enrolled her in a painting class. Her subject matter was influenced by the time she spent with her father, who was a photographer, and spent a lot of time in Indian Country, where she watched him respectfully photograph babies in their cradleboards, saw old wooden wagons with automobile tires drawn by horses or mules. Today, Brening takes off on journeys back to Navajo and Hopi lands or to pueblos and villages in New Mexico to visit with many of the families whose children she paints portraits of, through the years she has formed lasting friendships with many. Each portrait sold also helps compensate the family of the model. Sharon paints each piece in layers, making each layer more exciting than the previous, capturing a figure that could walk right out of the canvas. She has been recognized with many awards and honors throughout her career and her artwork can be seen in many prestigious collections around the country.
In addition to Sharon Brening, juried artists, from throughout the state and the rest of the country, join Thunderbird Artists to bring Arizona a world-class, fine art event.  There will be 2,000+ pieces of art displayed, including paintings in all mediums, batiks, copper, glass, clay, stone, metal and wood sculptures, unique jewelry, photography and more.  Patrons will have the opportunity to meet and converse with the artists during all three days of the event.  Patrons will also enjoy an extensive collection of domestic and imported wines, as well as microbrews, courtesy of Golden Eagle Distributing. For $10, patrons receive an engraved souvenir wine glass and six wine tasting tickets.  The Surprise Sun Dancers will receive 25% of gross wine ticket sales.

The festival will also encompass live musical entertainment by pianist, Elijah Bossenbroek, Jason Michael Tracy and Keith Johnson. Jason’s contagious energy livens up any crowd and is a show all on its own. Meanwhile patrons love the reggae calypso music of Keith Johnson, they often find themselves tapping their feet and enjoying the steel drums.

The event will take place at the Surprise Recreation Campus, 15960 N Bullard Ave in Surprise, Arizona. The festival is open 10am to 5pm all three days, admission is $3 for adults and parking is free all weekend. Join Thunderbird Artists, Sharon Brening and other talented artists for the Surprise Fine Art & Wine Festival!
