Young Eales Rally

Area young people ages 8-17 will have a chance to take to the skies on Saturday, August 15, as Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 931 hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally at Adams County Airport.

Free airplane rides are just part of the Flight Rally,” said Mathieu Labs, spokesman for the event. “We hope to build one-to-one relationships between pilots and young people, giving a new generation a chance to learn more about the possibilities that exist in the world of aviation.”

Pilots at the event will also explain more about their airplanes allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight.
Following the flight, each young person, will receive a certificate making them an official Young Eagle. Their name will then be entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook.”

Those attending the flight rally on Saturday, August 15, are asked to come to the entrance/ parking lot off 11th Ave, starting at 8am to register for their flight.  Flights will begin at 9am, with registration closing at 12pm. Legal Guardians must be present to sign permission slips. There is will be food provided for all those who attend. Rain date is Sunday, August 16. Additional information about EAA and the EAA Young Eagles program is available on the Internet. The Young Eagles web page is www.youngeagles.org.

Stand Rock Indian Ceremonial Reawakened

Stand Rock Indian Ceremonial Reawakened

(Wisconsin Dells, WI) In celebration of the 150th anniversary of pioneer photographer H.H. Bennett you are invited to attend the Stand Rock Indian Ceremonial Reawakened. This authentic American Indian stage performance and Native arts marketplace will be held at the Crystal Grand Music Theatre in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin on Saturday August 22, 2015. Tickets for the performance are $22 and admission to the Native marketplace is free. The event is co-produced by the Friends of the H.H. Bennett Studio and Little Eagle Arts Foundation (LEAF).

For almost 80 years the Stand Rock Indian Ceremonial was a point of pride for Wisconsin Dells. Phyllis Crandall Connor directed the ceremonial for 25 years and wrote,“Each year the Ho-chunk (Winnebago) of Wisconsin gathered to hold their ceremonial dances in the ancient amphitheater at Stand Rock. The memories of chiefs and elders were verbally expressed through stories and maintained a history that could not be immortalized by the written word alone.“ For generations Wisconsin Dells visitors and locals alike recalled fond memories of the Native dancers in their tribal regalia, the voices of the singers, and the drumming that echoed up and down the river.

Lance Tallmadge (Ho-chunk) is the Director of The Stand Rock Indian Ceremonial Reawakened. This performance will feature champion dancers from various tribes accompanied by the musical talent of Elliot Funmaker (Ho-chunk). Vintage photographs of the H.H. Bennett Studio will enhance the performance. The Native Arts Marketplace will provide an opportunity to “Buy Local – Buy Native” and learn about the art and culture of participating Native American artists. Native food and art demonstrations will take place throughout the day.

The Stand Rock Indian Ceremonial Reawakened is a celebration of the local cultures and the natural beauty that is the Wisconsin Dells. Proceeds from this community-building event will support the arts and cultural preservation programs of the Friends of H.H. Bennett Studio and Little Eagle Arts Foundation (LEAF).
