The 2017 Sun n Fun Seabird Splash-In

Tavares Seaplane Base will host the 2017 Splash- In on April 1-2, 2017. Tavares is a great location for Seabirds on their way to SUN 'n FUN April 4-9, 2017. Tavares, known as Americas First Seaplane City has all the facilities for seaplane activities, as well as walk-to hotels and restaurants. Tavares is experienced in conducting seaplane splash-in events and is excited to host the participation of SUN 'n FUN Seabirds.

SUN 'n FUN International Fly-In and Expo

Mark your calendars for aviation’s season opener during the 43rd Annual SUN ‘n FUN International Fly- In & Expo presented by VISIT FLORIDA from April 4-9, 2017 in beautiful Lakeland, FL. The Fly-In is SUN ‘n FUN’s largest fundraiser for the Aerospace Center for Excellence (ACE), a 25-acre, 11 building campus dedicated to aerospace and STEM education. Approximately 200,000 guests, exhibitors, volunteers, sponsors and performers are expected to attend. Proceeds from the event support numerous community activities in addition to ACE.
SUN ‘n FUN would love to welcome our French Allies on Tuesday April 4th, as the French National Team, Patrouille de France, performs during the airshow. The team is thanking the United States for our participation during the World War. The day will also honor America’s participation as we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of America entering the air war in Europe, and the 70th Anniversary of the Air Force. We are proud to welcome the world-renowned Blue Angels back to the SUN ‘n FUN stage. The team will perform Friday- Sunday. Art Nalls will bring the only civilian Harrier on the airshow circuit in for the weekend, April 7-9.

Turning Lives Around Luncheon

It is with great excitement that I invite you to participate in a very special event.  Turning Lives Around is an annual fundraising luncheon hosted by the Children’s Home Society of Florida to raise funds to support programs that serve children and families in the Greater Lakeland community.  
During this luncheon attendees will learn more about the mission of Children's Home Society of Florida and how we're changing children's lives every day through our commitment to protect children, strengthen families and impact the community. 
As a fellow member of the Lakeland/Bartow community, we ask you to help Children’s Home Society of Florida in giving local children brighter futures by helping them overcome challenges and succeed.  Just imagine the difference we can make if we all work together!

As a member, you and your employees are eligible to participate in a professional development series: LEADERSHIP IN THE WORKPLACE. Successful professionals continually strive to learn. Expanding skill sets and knowledge enables individuals to transcend their careers. The Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce, 
in collaboration with Polk State College, announces the launch of the 2017 Greater Bartow Chamber Professional Development Academy (PDA). This program provides skills for business, organization, and personal growth and improvement through a variety of educational and training opportunities. Receive your PDA certificate by attending a minimum of four of the seven classes. Cost for the academy classes are covered in your Chamber membership investment. If you are an employee of a Chamber member business, you are entitled to attend any of the classes at no cost. If you are not employed by a Chamber member business, the classes are $29 per class.

PDA allows you to choose the classes that are right for you.

What Is The Cost For The Classes?
Cost for the Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce Professional Development Academy classes are covered in your Chamber membership investment. If you are an employee of a Chamber member business, you are entitled to attend any of the classes at no cost. However, if you do register for a class, and cannot attend, you must notify the Chamber 24 hours prior to the class. If you fail to notify the Chamber and do not show up, your business will be charged an administration fee of $15 for the missed class. If you are not employed by a Chamber member business, the classes are $29.00 per class.

What Time Are Classes?
Classes begin at 7:30 a.m. and end at 9:30 a.m.

Do I Have To Attend Every Class?
Absolutely not. You are allowed to pick and choose the classes that are right for you.

Do I Need To Pre-Register?
Yes - pre-registration is necessary. Simply go online to and click on the Professional Development Academy icon.

How Do I Earn My Certificate?
You can earn your Professional Development Academy Certificate by attending a minimum of four of the classes.


Kelley Andrews, MS
Kelly Andrews has been working in the Health and Wellness field for over 25 years. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Science degree in Athletic Administration from Florida State University. Her diverse experience and educational background have provided her with opportunities to work in a variety of settings including corporate, non-profit, medical, and fitness centers, as well as within higher education. As a certified yoga teacher, wellness coach, holistic stress management instructor, and HeartMath mentor, Ms. Andrews shares her personal journey of finding peace within through her daily interactions with various clients. She currently serves as the Assistant Dean of Wellness at Florida Southern College and oversees the campus-wide Wellness and Recreation Program. In her spare time, she volunteers her time to support local businesses as a wellness consultant and assists individuals as a personal resilience coach.

J. Lenora BreslerJ. Lenora Bresler is an attorney, senior certified human resource professional, and a certified advanced speaker. She has her own leadership and motivation firm in Lakeland and is a keynote speaker, trainer, coach, and author. Her newest book, Instant Insight: 15 Questions to Great Relationships, is due out next month. She is the co-author of Mission Possible and Best of the Best, and is the editor of the motivation book Jump Starts, by Timothy Richardson. Ms. Bresler has taught the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Learning System for eight years at Valencia College and has repeatedly won awards for 100% class pass rates. Ms. Bresler has also taught for the Polk State Corporate College since 2001. With a background in acting, singing, and piano, she brings a flavor of humor and entertainment to all her trainings.

Based on the book, Instant Insight: 15 Questions to Great Relationships, this workshop explores how an effective team is like a jigsaw puzzle, where knowing the pieces and how they fit together is essential for successful interactions. Participants use a variety of interactive exercises to reveal differences in team members, as having insight about people enables individuals to persuade, motivate, teach, coach, and work with each other more effectively and harmoniously. In addition, this workshop helps participants identify their preferred learning styles, working times, pet peeves, and motivators. Mechanisms of persuasive argument are explored, including how simple adjustments in the detail-level of conversations can yield better results when providing information and instruction to others.

Toxic people and their behaviors affect the workplace, community, and even families. They create havoc, frustratration, drain energy, and cause unnecessary stress. This workshop focuses on mechanisms for taking back control. Through discussion and activities, participants identify toxic behaviors that sabotage success, assess the negative impact caused by toxic individuals, avoid the traps that allow them to influence and control, and learn to establish personal boundaries. This session reviews strategies for handling toxic encounters so that participants can protect themselves, leverage influence more effectively, and better apply leadership skills during these situations.

This course reviews supervisory skills that enable an individual to be an effective leader, coach, counselor, listener, motivator, and role model. The workshop emphasizes Transactional Analysis in Psychotherapy, created by Eric Berne, which defines the three ego states: Parent, Adult, and Child, and how these states affect interactions between individuals. Using real-world situations, individuals review possible outcomes and identify optimum responses to obtain their goals. The session develops leaders as mentors by enabling them to embrace the idea that each leadership encounter is situational, and assessing the ego state of those involved while using appropriate communications can lead to a harmonious and productive work environment.

Servant leadership refers to a natural desire to serve others which drives the individual into to leadership. A servant-leader considers himself or herself a servant first, which strongly contrasts with the leader-first model often seen in the working environment. This workshop enables participants to identify the guiding principles of servant leadership, discuss real-life examples, and brainstorm ways in which to model this style in their own careers—as well as encourage and reward its use by others.

In this fast-paced world, managers have to balance high productivity expectations with supportive staff coaching and mentorship. High-pressured deadlines and work overload lead to increasing stress. Heart-led leadership is based on leading from the heart, with a sense of patience, compassion, kindness, and positive energy. An individual who takes care of his or her own emotional and physical needs is more aligned and less reactive to others. This workshop provides some basic skills and techniques to begin an individual’s journey toward leading with the heart.

Most people work much harder and are far more stressed and frustrated than they have to be – simply because they are not organized. This workshop identifies some quick ways to organize one’s workspace, information access, and time investment so that work is easy – and perhaps even enjoyable! Thought-provoking questions require participants to be honest about limitations, obstacles, and priorities, allowing for true growth and productive change. During this session individuals explore how to organize the workspace and their use of it, prioritize tasks for efficiency, identify inefficient behaviors, and focus on the steps to a desired outcome.

Supported by a vast and growing body of research, mindfulness and mindful leadership is an emerging trend among Fortune 500 visionaries and leaders. Over the past decade, an increasing number of companies have discovered the advantages of incorporating mindfulness in their work culture and professional development practices. This workshop trains individuals in the foundations of mindfulness and explores techniques to include mindful practices into the daily routine. This enables individuals to focus on attention management, rather than time management, and leads to more responsive and productive relationships.

Learn How to Create a VIP Media Experience at FPRA

Is your organization creating a VIP media experience? Guest speaker Liz Anderson, senior public relations manager of Firehouse of America, LLC, will share best practices on elevating the traditional blogger experience at the next meeting of Dick Pope/Polk County chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association on April 19, 2017. Anderson lead the Firehouse Subs PR team to its best PR year to date in 2016, earning 31 national media stories, an advertising equivalency of $26.5 million, and more than 2.7 billion media impressions - surpassing 2015 impressions by 63 percent.

The chapter will also celebrate the recipients of the Image Awards, Public Service Award and Joe Curley Rising Leader Award at the April meeting.

SPCA Florida's Walk for Animals 2017

Welcome to SPCA Florida’s Silver Anniversary Walk for Animals, Presented by the Petco Foundation!  That’s right SPCA Florida’s 25th Annual Walk for Animals is coming and in a big way.  New for this year, the Walk for Animals has an Inaugural Presenting Sponsor in the Petco Foundation and we are so appreciative of their support.  In addition, we are extremely grateful of our past support and we look forward to your involvement in our silver anniversary as a Fundraising Team Captain or as a pet loving individual!  Either way, you and your pet are welcome to attend our Walk on Saturday, April 29th!
