The Excursion train rides depart from the Nevada Southern Railway Museum in Boulder City and travel seven miles along the revitalized historic Boulder Branch Line to Railroad Pass. The 40 minute ride is along the original tracks that were used to bring supplies to the Hoover Dam construction site in 1931. Ride in one of our climate-controlled Pullman coaches dating back to 1911 or enjoy the view and breeze from our covered open-air coach. The train departs at 10 am, 11:30 am, 1 pm and 2:30 pm every Saturday and Sunday, February through December, with special schedules the first two weekends in December. Boarding begins 15 minutes prior to departure. Reservations are not required. Tickets are $10/adult, and $5 for children (ages 4-11). Children under 4 years old are free.

The staffer will assist constituents who have difficulties with a federal issue or agency. Agencies/issues include, but are not limited to: IRS, USCIS, SBA, VA, Medicare, and social security.

The Homestead is pleased to announce a series of eight workshops aimed at educating the interested public on a variety of topics regarding aging, Alzheimer’s and dementia. The workshops will be lead by Mary Shapiro, Gerontologist and published author. The workshops will be held at the Homestead, 1401 Medical Park Dr., in Boulder City at 10:00 am on the third Thursday of each month. There is no cost to attend these workshops. The workshop curriculum is as follows: April 18 - Normal Aging: Dementia & Alzheimer’s Disease May 16 - Getting your Legal and Practical Ducks in a Row June 20- Progression of the Disease – What to Expect July 18- How to Cope When Words Fail August 15- I Love You But You’re Driving Me Crazy! September 19- Caregiver Stress – Warning Signs October 17- Exploring Options as the Disease Progresses November21- The Caregiver Journey: Loss, Grief and Love

Our Alzheimer’s Support Group provides understanding, confidentiality and a supportive environment for ventilation of feelings and fears. The mere act of coming together to discuss Alzheimer’s and sharing experiences validates and confirms each member’s ability to cope with his or her situation and that of his or her loved one. The group is led by Mary Shapiro, MSG, who has spent many years working with the families of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia and has provided support and understanding to many people throughout her career. The Alzheimer’s support group meets on the third Thursday of every month at 11:30 AM in the Homestead's library and there is no cost to attend. You may also bring your loved one with you, and we will care for him or her while you attend the meeting.

We meet the 3rd Thursday of the month in the banquet room of the Railroad Pass Hotel and Casino. Our May luncheon speaker will be radio talk show host Heidi Harris. The public is invited but a reservation is required by calling or sending an email by noon on May 9th. The cost of the luncheon is $20 which includes tax and tip.

The Homestead is pleased to offer a support group for those in the early-to-mid stages of memory loss. This group provides an opportunity to meet others who have similar difficulties, to exchange information, express feelings and receive support from each other. The Memory Loss Support Group, led by Mary Shapiro, will meet on the third Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. in The Homestead’s library. This Blues/rock quartet is best known for their hit "Run-Around" which became one of the biggest singles of 1995, spending nearly a full year on the charts. The song also won the group a Grammy Award and broke a record for most weeks on the chart.

9th Annual Best Dam Barbecue Challenge
The Best Dam Barbecue Challenge is a FREE family-friendly event held each year on the Friday night and all-day Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. Our guests come from throughout the Las Vegas valley to enjoy delicious barbecue & festival food in Bicentennial Park while strolling through the 37-team competition area of our KCBS-sanctioned barbecue contest (with $12,000 in prize money up for grabs)! Our event also features a car show, a rock climbing wall, a bungee-jump, the Verizon Family Fun Zone, Face Painting, the Artisan Marketplace, the Memphis Championship Barbecue KidsQue Challenge, the Police vs. Fire Rib Eating Contest, the Verizon Scavenger Hunt, Live Music, a DJ Dance Party (Friday night), and so much more!
