UCCE Master Gardener Training

13 week training, Fridays, September 5th - December 5th

During this 13 week workshop local volunteers will be trained by UC experts and local professionals in advanced plant science and sustainable gardening practices that are applicable to local conditions. Upon completion of the training, volunteers share their newly acquired knowledge with the community through the media, talks and workshops.  

Residents of Plumas & Sierra Counties are encouraged to apply.  Prior horticulture experience is encouraged but not required.  We are seeking applicants with a strong volunteer ethic and a desire to make a long-term commitment to the program and their community.

IVCC Leaf Peepers Century Rides

A Beautiful ride through the Indian Valley, Taylorsville, CA. and on to Genesee for lunch and then back to Greenville, or for the long haulers, up to Antelope Lake, around the lake, and then back down the hill to Genesee for lunch, and then back around the valley to Greenville. The Beauty of the Fall rides is the Wonderful changing of the leaves, especially up at Antelope Lake. This is the Fourth Annual Leaf Peepers Rides and the weather has been just Lovely each year. Plan for cool mornings and a warm afternoon. Picturesque, Stunning, and Fun for the whole Family.

LACC Fundraiser Dinner & Auction

A family in our Chester community has been faced with a very difficult medical situation.
Daryl & Irmgard Emis were recently told that Irmgard has ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Medical  and mobility equipment expenses have created a serious burden on the family.
In an effort to help, there will be a fundraiser dinner/ silent auction held on October 4, 2014 from 5PM to 8PM at the Lake Almanor Community Church. This is a community wide event. Additional there has been an fund account opened at the US Bank in Chester. If you would like to help you can make donation right at the bank.
The cost of the dinner is a donation.
In order to make certain that donated funds go into the fund account, all checks need to be made out to the Daryl Emis Fund. If cash is taken to the bank, you also need to state that it is for the Daryl Emis Fund Account.

Water, Power, Fish & Fire

Starting at the Prattville Intake on Lake Almanor, we follow the water (and the money) down the Stairway of Power via the Butts Reservoir road to Caribou. USFS personnel along with PG&E personnel will discuss the impacts of hydroelectric production on rural communities, recreation, ecosystems, and fisheries. Traveling back through the Chips Fire area of 2012, we'll learn about the effects fire has on riparian areas.
