Pollinate - A community Art Exhibit

Take part in this community exhibition and celebrate how pollinators affect our world! Beetles, bees, butterflies, bats, birds, flies, wasps, wind, water and even people can all be agents of the continuation of life on our planet by bringing the life force of one being to that of another, so that the seed of a new one can grow. Somewhere between 75% and 95% of all flowering plants on the earth need help with pollination. Another way to say this is that one out of every three bites of food we eat is there because of the work of pollinators.

An “Inside-Outsider” Reflects on Europe’s Refugee Crisis

Iowa native Michael Luick-Thrams recently lived in Dresden, Germany, teaching and writing. He’ll speak about the refugee crisis dividing Europe—and its connections to Iowa and the US.

In the spring and summer of 2015, along with millions of increasingly concerned Germans, Luick-Thrams watched as more and more refugees fleeing war, poverty and ecological disaster arrived in Europe, seeking a safe haven. He also watched how his German neighbors, students, friends and relatives reacted to those uninvited newcomers. He also worked with non-Germans, taking refugees and other foreign-born/-raised residents into schools, churches, youth centers, museums and other venues to speak about being a non-German living in the Germany of today
