"Trails for Dale" fundraiser to end Alzheimer's

"Trails for Dale" was organized by Brecka, Tiffany, Shanna, and Maddie Putnam to celebrate and honor their dad, Dale Putnam, who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. There is no cure for him, or anyone fighting Alzheimer's today. It is estimated that 10 million people are diagnosed daily. We simply don’t have the infrastructure to take care of that many people, so we have to find a cure.

"Trails for Dale" is a 24-hour biking event to be held June 24 to raise funds for research to take down Alzheimer's; all proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Association. Bikers should sign up for one hour (or more) shifts starting at 12:00 AM (that's midnight Friday night)--the goal is to have at least one person riding all day. At the end the day, all adult participants are invited to join for a group lap and after party.

Groups are encouraged - sign your family, team, or club up for an hour or two or three, or consider a corporate hour!

Adults are encouraged to raise at least $100 or couples to raise $75 per person, and kids to raise at least $10. There will be a dedicated kids' hour during the day, as well as food and fun at event headquarters.

Hippen Goes Electric...at the Lingonberry!

Composer Ben Hippen presents a special musical event on Wednesday, June 28 at 7:30 pm at the Lingonberry in downtown Decorah at 218 West Water Street. Doors open at 7pm. The concert will feature Hippen’s solo keyboard playing, synchronized live music notation, orchestral backing tracks, and projected live video.

Music lovers looking for an unique experience are invited to enjoy Hippen’s cinematic and evocative music. Attendees are invited to stay for refreshments and talk with the composer.

Carolyn Corbin of Corbin Group Video Productions is the sponsor partner for this event. ““Hippen is a rare treasure. His music never fails to pluck at the heart-strings of listeners. We will be filming this event for Ben’s upcoming music video. Ben is an amazing musician and it’s a real treat for us to work with him!”

The event will include an unusual blend of blend of technology, art, and music. Listeners will hear full ensemble arrangements, see projected video with actual music notation being played synchronized in real time, and hear never-before-heard performed material performed with Hippen’s emotional keyboard stylings, lyric melodies, and lush harmonies.

Notes Hippen: “This is a rare chance for an audience to experience the sheet music as it’s being performed live. As far as I know, this is the first time this has been done in northeast Iowa.”

Hippen’s albums Virunga and Word Is can be heard on Spotify.

For more information about the concert, visit the Lingonberry online at facebook.com/thelingonberry. Tickets are $7 in advance or $10 at the door. To order tickets in advance contact carolyn@corbingroup.biz.
