Of Wings and Water: ArtHaus Gallery Show

Reception: Friday, June 15 from 7-9pm

The public is welcome to a free gallery opening in the ArtHaus gallery displaying the collaborative and independent paintings on canvas by local Jennifer Fisher Jones and Cary Wyninger from Trempeleau, Wisconsin. During a group exhibit, Jennifer and Cary recognized their painting styles compliment one another in their use of color, loose brush work and dynamic movement. This resonance enticed them to embark on merging water and wing imagery in this collaborative series by passing canvases back and forth from their respective studios until deemed complete. The process demanded that they not only trust, but also have an intuitive regard for the artistic vision of the other.  The artists will give a short presentation on their process and work during the opening.

Friday Book Group "The Presidents Club"

Decorah Public Library staff are hosting one book discussion in June. The group is open to the public and newcomers are encouraged to attend. Anyone interested should call the library at 382-3717 to learn more or to reserve a book.

The Friday Book Group will meet at 2:00 p.m. Fri. June 15th on the 2nd floor of the library to discuss “The Presidents Club,” by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy. The Presidents Club, established at Dwight Eisenhower’s inauguration by Harry Truman and Herbert Hoover, is a complicated place: its members are bound forever by the experience of the Oval Office and yet are eternal rivals for history’s favor. Among their secrets: how Jack Kennedy tried to blame Ike for the Bay of Pigs, how Ike quietly helped Reagan win his first race in 1966, and how Richard Nixon conspired with Lyndon Johnson to get elected and then betrayed him. “Time” magazine editors and presidential historians Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy offer a new and revealing lens on the American presidency, exploring the club as a hidden instrument of power that has changed the course of history.
