Speaker Series: "High-Impact Leadership"

5-6 p.m. (Reception), 6-7:30 p.m. (Keynote)

Possessing leadership qualities and displaying leadership behaviors are key requirements for any manager who wants to achieve success through people. In this session, Thunderbird School of Global Management Associate Professor of Leadership Suzanne Peterson, Ph.D. will discuss what high-impact leaders do differently and uniquely to achieve both results and loyalty in relationships.

The High-Impact Leadership approach is based on the assumption that leadership is not a temperament, but a choice and leaders choose how to behave. Within that framework, we will cover three key areas:

  • Driving Performance and Accountability: Unique and actionable ways to inspire team members toward collaboration, loyalty and performance while creating “conditions of accountability.”
  • Presenting Yourself as a Leader: Flexing between leadership and management, with attention paid to the verbal and non-verbal language that can influence how you are perceived as a leader.
  • Inspiration and Motivation as Leadership Tools: Going beyond recognition, praise and money to find unique and actionable ways to motivate and inspire people toward collaboration, loyalty and performance.

Thunderbird's Global Speaker Series offers prospective and current students, alumni and the entire Thunderbird Community the opportunity to hear, firsthand, from some of the most amazing voices in global business. This series includes speaking events with world-renowned international experts, Thunderbird faculty members, successful alumni and more. Previous speakers have included the Dalai Lama, Condoleezza Rice and more.

Speaker Series:

It is the proverbial American Dream: Owning your own business. But in today’s fast-paced environment, the road to success is less a leisurely drive with signs pointing the way and more like a high-speed, Autobahn adventure requiring the negotiation of many turns. Join Wolfgang Koester '91, CEO of FiREapps, as he offers an overview of the five key stages that entrepreneurs face when transitioning a business from an idea to liquidity.

Koester draws on his own experiences as he discusses important learnings such as recognizing marketplace needs, uncovering financing and identifying key hires at every stage along the way. He also explores how to best leverage technology, determine pricing, enhance strategies and build the business through distribution. And where some leaders may believe attaining business maturity signals success, Koester advices that the “maturity” stage may actually present the greatest challenges of all, as entrepreneurs seek to best position their organizations for hypergrowth.

A reception at the on-campus Thunderbird pub will follow the event.

Note: This event will be live-streamed. Register to receive the link to watch online!

YOUR FINANCIAL FREEDOM PLAYBOOK BY TONY ROBBINS

ONE SESSION ONLY - 6:00-8:00 pm

No matter your salary, your stage in life, or when you started, this book will provide the tools to help you achieve your financial goals more rapidly than you ever thought possible. What would it be like if you knew that no matter what happened in the economy, the stock market, or real estate you and your family would not only survive but thrive – that you could not only protect yourself, but actually profit from the very environment that causes so many to live in fear? UNSHAKEABLE will not only help you take advantage of the opportunities, but keep you from making the mistakes that cause people to settle for a life of far less than they deserve.
