05/21/13What is Sound Yoga?
Beneath the hearing of sound is the feeling of sound. ✧ The “felt sense of sound” is the primal awareness in all living things. ✧ It can be dulled by stress, trauma or inattention, leading you to feel oddly disconnected from your body. ✧ Resonant Body Sound Yoga cultivates and sharpens the felt sense, improving human life. Andy Zadrozny is a musician who has spent his career developing a unique Yogic Ear Training methodology and an advanced healing and wellness modality based on his sound yoga technique. On May 14th he will introduce guests to sound yoga and demonstrate his Resonant Body Treatment Table. 3500 Trinity, Ste A-5, Los Alamos, New Mexico 87544

05/22/13Brown Bag @ the Bradbury
Brown Bag @ the Bradbury - Jen Payne - A Little Bird Told Me: The Prehistory and History of the Pajarito Plateau May is National Heritage Preservation Month, but at Los Alamos National Laboratory every month is Historic Preservation month. The Laboratory has an unusually high density of archaeological sites on its lands, with a ratio of one site per six hectares. Federal laws require archaeologists to identify, evaluate, and protect cultural resources eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Reliable and cost-effective eligibility determinations are crucial to land use decisions. The Laboratory has an active cultural resources management plan and strategy, which allows projects to avoid impacts to archaeological sites and historic buildings. Between 2002 to 2007 archaeologists working at the Laboratory conducted an intensive excavation project, studying more than 40 sites. This presentation provides an overview of how archaeologists and historians make cultural resources management decisions at the Laboratory. Join us as Jen Payne, a LANL historian and archaeologist speaks on her experiences from Noon to 1:00 PM during a lunchtime lecture at the Bradbury Science Museum. For more information about our other lectures, please visit our website at: http://www.lanl.gov/museum/events/lectures.shtml

05/23/13Authors Speak Series - Steve Sheinkin
Steve Sheinkin is the former history textbook writer and current award-winning author of several fascinating books on American history, most recently Bomb: The Race to Build – and Steal – the World’s Most Dangerous Weapon. Bomb is a multiple award winner: it was selected as a Newbery Honor Book in 2013. Sheinkin’s true story of the atomic bomb’s inception was also awarded both the ALA’s Robert F. Sibert Medal for “most distinguished informational book published in English during the preceding year” and the Young Adult Library Service Association’s Award for Excellence in Nonfiction. It was also a 2012 National Book Award Finalist, Young People's Literature. His title The Notorious Benedict Arnold won both the 2012 YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults and the Boston Globe/Horn Book Award for non-fiction. Steve lives in Saratoga Springs, NY. About BOMB: In December of 1938, a chemist in a German laboratory made a shocking discovery: When placed next to radioactive material, a Uranium atom split in two. That simple discovery launched a scientific race that spanned 3 continents. In Great Britain and the United States, Soviet spies worked their way into the scientific community; in Norway, a commando force slipped behind enemy lines to attack German heavy-water manufacturing; and deep in the desert, one brilliant group of scientists was hidden away at a remote site at Los Alamos. This is the story of the plotting, the risk-taking, the deceit, and genius that created the world's most formidable weapon. This is the story of the atomic bomb.
