05/06/11Herbal Medicine and Women's Cycles
This class will present herbs that are useful for nourishing and supporting a woman's body during her monthly female cycles. This class will involve more than a simple discussion of herbal remedies for specific complaints, and rather, will encourage the exploration of cultural ideas, personal histories, and womanly insights into how our monthly cycles affect our overall health and well-being. As the discussion evolves, herbals formulas and how they can be used to maintain balance within the body will be considered. Bio: Kristi Beguin is an herbalist and an environmental consultant. Her work in the healing arts began in 1991 when she began studying the native, traditional, and medicinal uses of plants in both the Northwest and the Southwest. She received a Bachelor's of Science in Ethnobotany and Ecology from The Evergreen State College in 1993, and received a Certificate in Herbology from the East-West School of Herbology in 2007. Her perspective has been shaped by her various roles as avid outdoors-person, scientist, martial artist, writer, medicine-maker, and mother. Her herbal practice incorporates Western herbal medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and flower essence therapy.
