Kiwanis Litchfield Park Winter Trout Fishing Derby

A family event! Gather up the kids, pack a picnic, fishing poles and join in the great fishing with 1,000 pounds of trout (8 to 17 inches long) stocked in the Tierra Verde Lake for the day. A fishing license is not required for the day of fishing during the tournament published times.

Trophies will be awarded to boys and girls 15 and under and 16 and over for the "Shortest Trout", "Longest Trout" and "Most Trout Caught" during the derby.  Bring your own equipment and bait. Past derby participants have caught trout using canned corn, salmon eggs, cheese, fish dough and/or lures.

A fishing license is not needed for the derby; however, a permit will be required for children over 12 years old and adults if you intend to fish after the derby. Licenses can be purchased at the Recreation Center lobby located at 100 S. Old Litchfield Rd. in Litchfield Park during operating hours.

Avondale’s Neighborhood & Family Services Department invites the community to attend the Care1st Avondale Resource Center 6th Annual Health and Resource Fair.
 
This free event is open to the public to showcase all the human and housing services offered at the Care1st Avondale Resource Center. Services include assistance with AHCCCS, Food Stamps, Cash Assistance and Affordable Care Act Applications, parent education courses, citizenship classes, support groups, English and literacy classes, and so much more.

Stalking and Harassment Self Defense Workshop

January is Anti Stalking Month. The Mayor of Goodyear, local Police Officers and Starworld Martial Arts Black Belt Slef Defense Experts will give a Anti Stalking Workshop. Many victims of stalking reported being stalked over a period of months or years. Access to guns all but ensures that an abusive situation turns fatal. Stalking domestic abusers who have access to firearms are over 7 times more likely to kill their partners.

Art Showcase Reception Event

Enjoy an evening of art and jazz entertainment as City of Avondale and West Valley Arts Council invites you to the first Avondale event of the new year, scheduled for January 28, 2017.  
The community is invited to attend this free event hosted at the Avondale City Hall.  The Saturday event will kick off at 6 p.m. and run till 8 p.m. Trio Salado Jazz Quartet will entertain; wine and refreshments will be available for purchase, as well as art for sale by West Valley artists.

About the band: Trio Salado Quartet was formed in 2012 in Tempe, Arizona; an instrumental jazz ensemble playing standards and original compositions. Local musicians and valley veteran performers of Trio Salado Quartet include Kurt Hauser, guitarist, and a member of the music faculty at Estrella Mountain Community College;  Matt Cox, percussionist; Michael Roberts on Bass; Brett Seamans plays sax, guitar and keyboard.

About the art: West Valley Arts Council  (WVAC) Roster Artists have been invited to take part and display there works at this event.  The Civic Center City Hall and library locations typically provide a venue of which artist display their art; this event will allow for an expanded view and opportunities to purchase the art.  For information on West Valley Arts Council please visit www.westvalleyarts.org.

The event is indoors and there is no admission fee to attend.  Food and beverages available for purchase and proceeds will benefit the Friends of Avondale Libraries and Recreation.
