Heart of the Redwoods Community Hospice will be celebrating our 6th Annual Spring Gala "A Caribbean Affair" on Saturday, April 7th at Cecil's Restaurant in Garberville from 6 p.m. until midnight. Join us for a sultry Caribbean inspired evening of food, music, and fun. There will be a champagne reception, passed appetizers, a Caribbean banquet, blackjack table, photo booth, face painting and  a silent auction featuring vacation rentals in Hawaii and Mexico as well as local inns and more. Marisa Formosa and George Mooney will be opening for the eclectic dance band with a steel pan "The Mixed Nuts" from Mendocino. Tickets are $80 per person in March, starting April 1st, $100 per person. Tickets are available at the Blue Moon gift shop, HRCH office and at Cecil’s in Garberville. Join Sanctuary Forest on Sunday, April 8th for the 2018 Docent Training!
This free training will prepare volunteers to represent Sanctuary Forest and help guide one (or more!) of 12 hikes offered this summer. Hikes vary from easy to difficult with a wide range of topics, including
  • Two kid-focused hikes
  • Native plants
  • Medicinal and edible plants
  • Native culture
  • Forestry and restoration
  • Nurturing biodiversity
  • Regenerative farming techniques
  • The Lost Coast
  • Old-growth redwoods, and more!
Over the course of 4.5 hours, participants will learn basic first aid, learn how to lead the opening and closing circles, assist hike leaders, keep track of hikers, et cetera. There are two or more docents on all hikes and responsibilities are shared. No previous experience is necessary and speaking in front of the group is not necessarily required.  All are welcome!
A delicious lunch will be provided. Meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Sanctuary Forest office in Whitethorn. For more information call 986-1087 ext. 9# or email

Future Productions and the Mateel present Grammy-nominated platinum-selling electronic music group The Crystal Method, Saturday, April 28th with Andreas performing as a support act.
