07/16/18QUCC: Movie: "Ocean's 8"
Five years, eight months, 12 days… and counting. That’s how long Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) has been devising the biggest heist of her life. She knows what it’s going to take—a team of the best in their field (and an all star cast of female leads) , starting with her partner-in-crime Lou Miller (Cate Blanchett). Together, they recruit a crew of specialists: jeweler Amita (Kaling); street con Constance (Awkwafina); expert fence Tammy (Paulson); hacker Nine Ball (Rihanna); and fashion designer Rose (Helen Bonham Carter). The target is a cool $150 million dollars in diamonds—diamonds that will be around the neck of world-famous actress Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway), who will be center stage at the event of the year, the Met Gala. The plan is rock solid, but everything will need to be flawless if the team is going to get in and get away with the ice. All in plain sight.

• This 110 minute Action Adventure is Rated PG-13 for language, drug use, and suggestive content.

Everyone's favorite family of superheroes is back in Incredibles 2 – but this time Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell) and Dash (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to-day heroics of "normal" life. It's a tough transition for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack's emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) must find a way to work together again – which is easier said than done, even when they're all Incredible.

07/21/18CLAC: Gold Discovery Days
Plumas Eureka State Park Association has just announced the dates for this year’s Gold Discovery Days; Mark your calendars for Saturday and Sunday, July 21st and 22nd . The annual Gold Discovery Days celebration will be in full swing from 10am to 3pm each day with the acclaimed Pancake Breakfast under the trees on Sunday from 8-11am and lively music by the Code Blue Grass band. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to “step back in time” and see what it was like when thousands of miners invaded the upper Feather River in their efforts to extract the riches that under laid the area. Many of the structures still remain and offer a chance to explore their legacy and the rich history of our beautiful State Park. All venues for the celebration are free, including many examples of the gold miner’s lifestyle – the tours of the Moriarty family’s five room house for their eight family members; the blacksmith shop where all the tools for the miners were manufactured (their products are for sale in the museum); the assay office where the value of gold ore was determined and the Park Museum with exhibits featuring the historic and natural environment of the area. Throughout both days there will be BBQ lunch available with authentic pasties like the ones the miners ate, demonstrations of candle making, ice-cream and bread making (yep, there will be samples for tasting), spinning and weaving and gold panning lessons. Dress up in period costumes and take a family photo, ride in a cart drawn by spectacular draft horses through picturesque Johnsville, enjoy a picnic lunch and take in the Johnsville’s St. Johns Church museum. Discovery Days at Plumas Eureka State Park – a true jewel in our heritage! http://www.plumas-eureka.org/ contact: Marian Sciborski 530/836-4509

07/27/18QUCC: Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours
Antsy McClain brings his unique blend of music and “humor with heart” to the stage, combining his original songs with a hilarious slide show, including Antsy’s own life observations, social commentary and imaginary sponsors from his home town trailer park of Pine View Heights. As a master storyteller with the likes of PBS, NPR and TEDTalks under his belt, Antsy includes humorous and serious songs in his shows. Songs such as “One Less Trailer Here in Pine View Heights,” "My Baby Whistles When She Walks,” and “The Junk Drawer of Your Heart,” are keenly humorous observations about love and loss, while his more serious songs, like “Field Trip,” “I’m Everyone,” or “Falling in Love in America,” are more akin to personal journal entries written in the act of living. It’s this tightrope walk between humor and heart that makes Antsy McClain a true original.

Antsy McClain is one of those rare performers who can have you laughing hysterically and shedding a tear – often within the same song. In the last few years, McClain has been playing a lot of solo acoustic shows, but still plays with his band, The Trailer Park Troubadours, who bring their masterful touch to his live shows. Whether alone with his guitar, or with a group of other musicians, Antsy McClain creates an unforgettable night of music, theater and storytelling. Others have called him “a national treasure” (Modesto Bee), and “a creative force whose roots lie in songwriters like John Prine, Kris Kristofferson and Guy Clark” (Houston Chronicle), and “a happier, funnier Bob Dylan.” (his Uncle Fred). Whoever you think his influences might be, you will likely think of him as a friend after attending one of his concerts, due to his casual, approachable presentation and the relatable nature of his songs.

$25 General Admission, current Plumas Arts Members receive the member price of $20.

Calling all Paddle Heads (kayak, canoe, SUP):

This is a five-card poker run on the water from Canyon Dam Boat Launch to Plumas Pines Resort along the southwest shore of the 8th largest reservoir in California. It’s 10 miles roundtrip!

So what's a Poker Run? Well along the route, Paddlers will make 5 shore stops to pick up 5 poker cards and from those cards make the best poker hand possible. Prizes will be given to the two entrants with the two best poker hands presented at the finish line.

Bring your own vessel, safety equipment, sun protection, and liquids to the starting/finish line at the Canyon Dam Boat launch (where?). Equipment is also for rent in our area.

07/28/18QUCC: Movie: "The Incredibles 2"
