08/17/18QUCC: Movie: "Hotel Transylvania 3"
In Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 3, Mavis surprises Dracula with a family voyage on a luxury monster cruise ship so he can take a summer vacation from providing everyone else's vacation at the hotel, and the rest of Drac’s Pack cannot resist tagging along. The monsters are all having a great time, indulging in all of the shipboard fun the cruise has to offer, from monster volleyball to colossus sized buffets and exotic excursions, but then the unexpected happens as Drac falls for the intriguing-yet-dangerous captain of the ship. Balancing family, friends and a budding romance might just be too much, even for the most powerful vampire.

• This 85 minute Animated Family Film is Rated PG for some action and rude humor.

08/18/18CLAC: Running with the Bears Marathon, Half and 10K
Running with the Bears is Plumas County's brand new Boston Qualifier, and a fundraiser for foster children served by Mountain Circle Family Services. The Bears is a uniquely rural experience; goody bags, for instance, are filled with locally made products and, of course, bear bells! As runners cross the finish line, they’re greeted with an ice cold beer from a local brewery (UnderCoverAleWorks), and a massage with a view of the whole valley (juice, coffee, water and hydration drinks also available of course). It’s also one of few western races in August; higher elevations bring cooler temperatures- In 2011, the race-day low was 46 degrees, so be sure to bring your jacket! This event WILL sell out by early August, so please register early online at www.runningwiththebears.org

CLAC: Grebe Festival
Lake Almanor is the place to be the weekend of August 24th through 26th as we celebrate the extraordinary “dancing” grebes with our third annual Grebe Festival centered in Chester, CA.   Western and Clark’s Grebes (Aechmophorus occidentalis and A. clarkii) nest on Lake Almanor which is considered an Important Bird Area by National Audubon and which has grown in its importance as a breeding site for these grebes in recent years as drought has caused loss of nesting habitat elsewhere.  Late August is a great time to view the grebes as they are still nesting on the lake in colonies, racing across the water in their incredible “rushing” displays, and when some babies are hatching and climbing aboard their parents’ backs.

Kayak and pontoon field trips will allow festival-goers to get an up-close (but not too close!) look at nesting grebes.  A variety of other field trips around the Lake Almanor basin and Lassen National Park will be sure to satisfy!  For more information, please visit www.plumasaudubon.org/grebe-festival.
