You can help students gain confidence in their reading, improve fluency and help him/her know an adult is invested in them.

The Middle School Reading Program
In middle school, students face the reality that strong literacy skills are essential to academic success. They have to interpret and analyze what they read and explain its meaning. As content becomes more difficult, it's not unusual for less skilled readers to struggle in many subject areas. While most elementary students meet reading benchmarks in Oregon, by the time students reach eighth grade fewer than 70% are meeting benchmarks.
Literacy Parnters was launched to help those students improve their reading skills.
Local business volunteers read with middle school studnets for one hour, once a week and lead students through simple reading exercises prepared by teachers.
