Featured Guset Speaker: Lin Sue Cooney - longtime news anchor for local Channel 12 news, she is now director of community engagement for Hospice of the Valley.
Lin Sue Cooney became director of community engagement for Hospice of the Valley after 31 years as a newscaster at 12 News. She may have changed professions, but her passion to serve is stronger than ever. Instead of connecting with our community by delivering the latest headlines, she now connects families with the many compassionate services offered by one of the largest not for profit hospices in the nation.
In 2003, Lin Sue and her family experienced the tender care firsthand, when her father-in-law was a patient of Hospice of the Valley. Now all these many years later, she is honored to be serving the agency’s mission of comfort and dignity to all. In 40 years, Hospice of the Valley has never turned anyone away regardless of financial means.Lin Sue has won nine Rocky Mountain Emmys, as well as numerous awards for news reporting and community service. She is the eldest of four children and graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in English and political science from Willamette University in Oregon. She went on to earn a master’s degree in journalism from the prestigious Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
Off camera, Lin Sue devotes time to numerous valley charities. Her standard poodle Max is a certified pet therapy dog and together, they visit hospice and dementia patients.
