The Oconee County Mentor Program Wants YOU!

Chamber members are urged to become involved by volunteering to mentor a student (grades K-12) or supporting the program through an annual or one-time contribution.  Contributions are tax-deductible and your financial contribution will help provide training for mentors, publicize the program and manage the communication needed to grow and expand the program.  Contact Ann or Pat at 706-769-4974 or Pat at mentor@oconeeconnection.org for more information.

Under the umbrella of the Oconee Area Resource Council, a local non-profit Family Connection partner, the Mentor Program has attracted volunteers from area businesses, the community, and the University of Georgia.  The 2012-2013 program was made possible through its partnership with Oconee County Schools and the Oconee Sheriff’s Department as well as financial support from the United Way of NE Georgia, the Oconee Board of Commissioners, Georgia Power and the Oconee Chamber of Commerce.

“Having a mentor is more important than ever before.  In many ways, being a kid today is tougher than ever before. An entire generation of young people...is in need of a friend, someone they can trust, an example they can follow.”   Michelle Obama-Jan. 26, 2011-National Mentoring Summit
