Spotlight - Athens Area Humane Society

  1. We are an animal shelter and spay/neuter clinic with a full time vet on staff who only performs surgeries.  We average 3,300/year!  We do not offer general vet services, and we do not do public intake of animals.  We pull from local shelters, saving the lives of countless cats and dogs.

  1. The Humane Society’s background can be traced back to 1900, but the Humane Society as the community knows it today was incorporated in 1989 as the Athens ‘cat shelter’.  In 2009, our organization became ‘no kill’ and moved from Athens to Oconee County.  On September 5th, 2013, we performed our 20,000th surgery and expanding our dog program is a project we are looking to next.
