Accounting Program Announces Endowment, Honors Former Dean

Perry Barnett, chairman of the Mike Cottrell College of Business' Business Advisory Council and partner at Rushton & Company, an accounting and business planning firm in Gainesville, announced the endowment amidst applause, and added that the program is more than halfway toward its goal.
"We have secured $112,674 in gifts and commitments, with pledges made over a three- to five-year period," Barnett said. "Some have already made multiyear pledges of $25,000; with this support we can create a permanent endowment designated to support the accounting program."
The idea for the program was initiated by former dean Max Burns, who wished to create an endowment and also to honor Dennis' years of service to the accounting program and the Mike Cottrell College of Business.
"Dr. Dennis has made a tremendous impact on the Mike Cottrell College of Business over the years," said Dr. Donna Mayo, dean of the Mike Cottrell College of Business. "It is really an honor for us to be able to create this endowment to represent what he has done and continues to do in supporting our College and its students."
Attending the luncheon were some 50 friends, business associates and former students of Dennis, many of whom work in the accounting field in and around Gainesville. Speaking of his efforts, Dennis gave credit to his support network.
"I had great support, a strong community, dedicated faculty, and wonderful students. Thank you for being part of my life," Dennis said.
