TOPS in BLUE coming to Oroville!

Tops in Blue Coming to the State Theatre!

Plan to be dazzled by the current tour of Tops in Blue coming to the State Theatre on Tuesday, June 12 at 6pm. There will be singing and dancing to the best of Pop and R&B sounds along with Country/Western music. And the show wouldn't be complete without a tribute to our great nation that has been a tradition with Tops In Blue for the past 57 years.

Tops in Blue consists of members of our U.S. Air Force sharing their musical and dance talents.  They select only a few areas in NorCal to play each year and Oroville was selected this year!

All the singing and dancing will send you home with wonderful memories of  the talented Air Force Expeditionary Entertainers.  This is a free show and the doors will open at 5:15pm.

Jeepers Creepers!

Chamber Staff

Amid the scorching heat of the summer sun... oops, not yet it's still springtime, mechanics creepers of all shapes, sizes and persuasions were lined up for review, safety checks, and the aniticipated "CRACK" of the starter's gun.  Crowds lined the streets and cheered their favorites on.  Darting in between obstacles, handling improptu equipment failures, and stretchhhhhhing for the finish line, the contestants from all parts of the community left the observers wanting more.  Thank you to the Oroville Downtown Business Association, the particpants and their crews, and to the fans that came out to support this competitively "fun" activity.  We love the creative spirit!  For more pictures, please visit the Oroville Area Chamber of Commerce on facebook.

Need for Gun Laws?

Innocent bystander

Caught on cell phone by a shocked onlooker... Claudia Knaus is seen here brandishing a 44 Magnum Dirty Harry style pistol and yelling "Bring it on you Critters!"  Shortly after this picture was taken, Ms. Knaus surrendered the weapon claiming that she had been fooled into using .32 caliber blanks and that the concussion caused by the discharge brought on a rare side effect known to cause rage and memory loss.  Back at work on Monday and seemingly oblivious to the incident, Ms. Knaus was extremely apologetic and embarrassed by all of the attention.  About an hour later, she was seen doing quick draw exercises in the parking lot!  The incident is still under OACC investigation.

Okay, we're pulling your leg.  She was the race starter at the Creeper races.  But she looks like she was enjoying herself way too much!!!

Independence Day Coming Soon!

Chamber Staff

“Oroville Dam Fireworks are back!”  the Oroville Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce. The 4th of July fireworks display will once again light up the sky over Lake Oroville thanks to the efforts of Bidwell Marina, California Department of Water Resources, City of Oroville, Gold Country Casino and event coordinator Upstate Community Enhancement Foundation – Friends of the Arts.

The funds were raised on behalf of the “City of Gold” and its beautiful lake to continue this freedom celebration, featuring internationally acclaimed fireworks engineers “Pryo Spectaculars.” Pyro will create a beautifully orchestrated display to dazzle the eye and imagination. Fresh off their fabulous commemorating fireworks display that marked the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Pyro Spectaculars is happy to return to Oroville for this local fireworks tradition.

Starting at approximately 9:30 p.m., this pyrotechnical display is free of charge and attracts thousands to the Oroville Dam crest. Others view the fireworks from boats. The fireworks light up the night sky and reflect vividly on the lake surface behind Oroville Dam.

Limited food vending spots are available in designated areas. Interested vendors should contact either California Highway Patrol officer Cliff Morrison at 530-538-2700 for vending atop Oroville Dam or Bob Grisak for vending at the Spillway Area Parking lot, run by State Parks at 530-538-2200. The deadline is June 22.

For more information, contact the Oroville Area Chamber of Commerce at 538-2542 or visit http://www.lakeorville.net.

City reaches out!

On Thursday, May 31st, The City of Oroville Planning and Development Services Department was out in force to host a "Meet & Greet" with the general public.   That appreciative public was available to ask building-related questions of the experts and do so in an most informal way.  The barbecue, held to celebrate Building Safety month provided an opportunity for those involved in the building trade as well as the general public to meet City Building Officials.  David Goyer, pictured above, manned the barbecue providing hot dogs and hamburgers to a hungry group of community members.  Shade, a cool breeze, and informative discussion provided for a delightful "small town" feel to the event.  Thank you to the City of Oroville and to those employees and community members who took part - LOVE THIS TOWN!

Traffic Catcher Sites for YOU!

If you don't have a web presence,  you're losing money.  You can set it up yourself, or you can set up an appointment with the Chamber's Technical Resource Specialist, Cliff Marler.  He will assist you in settting up, refining and activating your Traffic Catcher Site.  This is a special offer to our Chamber Membership for $30.
