National Team Roping Finals

National Team Roping Finals Ropers compete for close to $1 Million. The ropers are many, close to 1,000 and the payoffs are big this week at Rancho Rio in Wickenburg.  After a successful inaugural event in 2015 and 2016, the arena located at the intersection of Tegner Street and Highway 93 is hosting the National Team Roping Finals III on March 6-11, 2017

Approximately 900 contestants will rope at 10:00 a.m. throughout the course of six days with a total payout of close to $1 million in prize money.  There are three ropings that the champion team will each receive $100,000.  The National 12 on Wednesday, the National 9 on Thursday and the National 8 on Friday.  Ropers have qualified through the year long season to qualify for these events.

The remainder of the week is filled with ropings made up of competitors of various categories of ages and skill levels.  The action is fast-paced, and the competition stiff.

The ropings are limited to a certain number of contestants – some are capped at 150 and others at 200.  A single roper, can enter more than once with more than one partner to increase his or her

chances of winning.  Teams work their way through a couple of preliminary runs, and the top Ten Teams are called back for a short-go, or final round.

On Thursday evening, March 9 a huge white tent will house the third annual Horse Sale.  Consignors will bring 55 rope and performance horses to the ring beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The week in historic Wickenburg will wrap up in cowboy fashion with other western events including: Arizona Junior Rodeo, Saturday & Sunday at the Everett Bowman Rodeo Grounds; Western Steak Fry, Auction & Dance on Saturday, March 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Center sponsored by Community Rodeo Association, and art exhibitions at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum.
