PRESCOTT FARMERS MARKET
www.PrescottFarmersMarket.org
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue has proclaimed Aug. 6-13 to be National Farmers Market Week. The Prescott Farmers Market is celebrating 20 years in Prescott. The highlight of the 20th Anniversary celebration is a sold-out Farm to Table dinner hosted at the Holiday Courtyard on Sunday, Aug. 27. Tickets are still available for the on-site after party with a cash bar, music, and dancing from 7-8pm.

As a vital part of the economy, the mission of Prescott Farmers Market is to support and expand local agriculture, cultivate a healthy community and increase access to affordable local food. The Prescott Farmers Market stands apart from other farmers markets in that it is a “producer-only” market. This means that every vendor must grow, raise, or make every item on their table. Food and drink vendors must purchase at least 10% of their ingredients for each item from an Arizona farmer. “These rules and regulations ensure that the market remains focused on Arizona agriculture and our local farmers,” said Market Manager Kelley Villa. The Prescott market has been recognized nationally as one of the best farmers markets in the country.

News from Sheri

Happy August,

The Prescott Chamber of Commerce is proudly partnering with Mortimer Farms and Yavapai Regional Medical Center to introduce a brand new annual community event, Business to Farm: A Local Experience. This event will take place on Saturday, August 26th at Mortimer Farms, located at 12907 AZ-169, Dewey, AZ 86327. The purpose of this event is to bring families and the community together through a taste-full country experience and to support local businesses.

The Business to Farm event (open to the public) will feature the booths of community businesses and a chance to enjoy plenty of fun farm activities all day long. Farm activities include hayrides, a petting zoo, tire swings and more, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Special admission price into the farm is $5 for each child and adult, which allows access to ALL of the fun activities and booths. Throughout the entire day, guests will have the opportunity to win prizes donated by businesses around the Tri-City area.

Register your business today for the Business Expo at Prescott.org.

At the Farm to Table event (open to the public), there will be a wine tasting from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and a farm-fresh dinner experience prepared by Mortimer Farms, served from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Dancing, featuring live music from Sky Daddy and the Pop Rocks, will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets for Farm to Table may be purchased for $35, which will cover the entire cost of dinner, wine samplings, and dancing. Purchase tickets at Prescott.org.

Children from ages 4-12 can have their own Farm to Table experience from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., for the price of $10 per child. This will cover the cost of their entire meal and includes their activities such as learning a farm craft, a cookie walk and playtime at the Tire Playground, Zip Line, Pedal Cart Races, Pony Hop, Farm Bowling, Giant Slides, and much more! While the adults are enjoying their time eating fresh food, they can be assured that their children are being carefully supervised by members of 4-H and FFA.

We value your membership and look forward to seeing you at the upcoming events!  Remember to shop local and with a fellow chamber member!

Pet of the Month

Yavapai Humane Society

It’s kitten season so we are up to our ears in cats and kitties looking for their forever homes. It’s a great time to feature a cat in the newsletter!

Please see Miss Phoebe, who is looking for her forever home—her picture is attached and her bio is below.

Bio: Hello, my name is Phoebe. I am a beautiful long haired tortoiseshell lady of a certain age. Well, they told me I HAVE to tell you my age…I’m 15 years old. BUT don’t you go judging now. That’s not even senior for an indoor cat. Age is just a number and I’ve got lots of life to live—don’t you worry about me, honey. Onto my best features. These eyes. This fur. Need I say more? I will anyway. I am very affectionate and social. I enjoy sitting on laps and cuddling with my people. I do get along with other cats. Sadly, my owner passed away and coming to the shelter has been a big change for me at my age (I’m used to the finer things, dahling). I will just be happy when I can relax in a new home, where I can bring you comfort and love. Come to Yavapai Humane Society and spend some time with me to see if we’re a match: 1625 Sundog Ranch Road, 928-445-2666, or online at www.yavapaihumane.org.
