Even in these challenging economic times, Elk Grove still holds the title of “the second-fastest-growing area in the region and California's first new City of the 21st Century” with a population growth that has been phenomenal. However, its ability to retain the feel of that once small town that began back in 1850 makes Elk Grove unique to its residents.
As the population increases, so does its retail and service businesses. This has allowed Elk Grove to beautifully blend that small-town feeling with all the amenities of an urban area. With a climbing population, a conscious effort was made to maintain the community's character. The Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce realizes that it takes a positive attitude and great level of effort to maintain the rural feel of our small town. The community and its surrounding organizations attempt to encourage this atmosphere with family-oriented events as the Western, Strauss & Harvest Festivals, Salute to Red, White and Blue, and the Parade of Lights & Dickens Faire.
The community has also taken steps to ensure that business and residential developments don't displace the natural beauty of the region by preserving open spaces such as the Cosumnes River Preserve and the Stone Lakes Wildlife Refuge. In addition, the Cosumnes Community Services District has made providing quality parks a top priority for Elk Grove residents. In fact, Elk Grove has received many awards of excellence in park systems management.
Elk Grove is a family-oriented area that offers everything from starter homes to ranch estates. Its population is diverse in ethnicity, age, and income levels. The award-winning Elk Grove Unified School District has an impeccable reputation offering plenty of services to the community. As Elk Grove blossoms and more businesses make their way into the area, folks will be able to live, work and play close to home.
In the past few years, the City of Elk Grove has made great strides in creating a “business friendly” economic climate by approving incentive programs and faster plan processing for development.
Elk Grove is poised for success as population, retail and business growth continue to thrive.
