About Us

In 2004, I stopped working and began to fulfill a dream I have had since childhood. I have always wanted to have my own greenhouse. Through the help of my family and friends, I am able to have my dream.

I started in 1998 with a small greenhouse in my mother's backyard. Most of the neighbors were very supportive. All the neighbors would peek in to see what I was growing. At first, I dabbled with flowers. Red geraniums to be exact. I was curious to see if I had inherited my father's green thumb or my mother's black thumb. The joke is my mother watered the artificial flowers. Well to everyones surprise, the flowers grew and grew. Once the plants matured, I had no idea what I was going to with all of them. Mr. Eger, a neighbor, knew exactly what should be done with the geraniums - donate them to his local church. So all around St. Perpetual church were my red geraniums.

Next, I started to grow shrubs. I took cuttings from all of the neighbors shrubs. This is how Chelse's Greenhouse was started.

I am a 1993 graduate of Penn State University with degrees in environmental and architectual engineering. I worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for nine years before starting Chelse's Greenhouse.

Chelse's Greenhouse was named after my dog, Chelse, a black lab. She was my constant companion, even attending college with me. When I headed outside to the greenhouse, there she was at my heels. Her tail would wag and knock over my plants. She loved to smell the flowers. In 2004, Chelse died. Now when you visit the greenhouse, you will be greeted by a St. Bernard named Enzo. He's large but very friendly.
