Color and Texture

WaterWorks Gallery

Joan works in a multi layered encaustic technique, often adding objects like shells or bits of lace, creating a translucent surface that is richly textured with depth of color. She incises lines similar to an etching in layers of molten wax or adds objects to the surface, creating a mixed media collage. Joan’s use of color and technique speak volumes to the viewer about the history of the piece and perhaps the nostalgia of place.

David has a penchant for populating his work with created objects that are on the verge of being familiar, but yet are unknown; an almost sea urchin, a bifurcated tree branch or a mushroom. Starting with a piece of wood that he builds up the layers of color in an arduous technique until the sculpture is transformed into this almost familiar object. Again we are not exactly sure of the object, other than it is from the mind of David French.

The gallery is open Wednesday, Thursday 10.30-5 pm, Friday 10.30-6 pm and Saturday 10.30-4 pm.
