Special Events at Whale Museum

On Saturday, the “Gear Down” Workshop will focus on research and recovery efforts related to Southern Resident killer whales (SRKWs) and salmon. Invited presenters include: Kenneth Warheit (WDFW) on regulations and practices regarding net pen fisheries and farmed salmon; San Juan County staff on Marine Resource Committee (MRC) regulations and updates on the pilot flag study; Taylor Shedd (TWM) on characterizing foraging behavior in SRKWs using aerial drones. Other presenters TBD.  A no-host reception at Mike’s Café & Wine Bar will follow.
On Sunday, the 3rd Annual Research Symposium will be held. Presenters include: Dr. Shawn Larson (TWM) on whale sightings hotline and data; Jennifer Olson (TWM) on marine mammal strandings and the San Juan County Marine Mammal Stranding Network; Elizabeth Seely (TWM) and Taylor Shedd (TWM) on the Soundwatch Boater Education Program as well as recent experience with J-35. Other presenters TBD. The registration fee is $35 for non-members; $25 for TWM/SSAMN members per event.  Lunch can be pre-ordered for an additional $10 per day.
